Make is Maytag cannot find model number anywhere on stove

  • mmegahan Jul 05, 2008

thanks for the info - main concern is cleaning the oven - which is a Maytag self cleaning oven with convection feature, made around 1989. easy off cleaner reads "safe for self cleaning ovens" but on the precautions label says "do not use on microwave, convection, or continuous-cleaning ovens." Inside of oven is quite dirty/greasy. Has been unused for about 2 years, is mounted in a custom built island in center of kitchen.
Exact model number unknown but general advice would be helpful?...clean first with the chemicals(if at all) then use self clean heat cycle...or???.Maytag website has very little info on this topic.

thanks - but i have no access to the users manuel or the model number - previous owners deceased.

You can find the complete instructions for disassembly in the service manual.

Not sure which model you have, but here are the break down diagrams for the Jenn Air range Model JES9800AAW.

As for the oven, you will just need to open the door and use your favorite degreaser/ cleaner. I wouldnt recommend opening it up any further than that..

The filter in the jenn air can be run through the dishwasher. clean the outside of the oven as best as you can before you start the self clean cycle. NEVER!!! use oven cleaner inside a self cleaning oven. or on the gasket. . You can use a degreaser or oven cleaner on the cooktop on any stainless steel, procelain or chrome surface. Don't get oven cleaner on painted or aluminum surfaces. Rinse off very well.

Self cleaning caused interior glass to crack

hi there,

this is called thermal breakage. basically, when the mfg. makes the glass, they either don't cook it long enough or let it harden long enough during manufacturing. remember, the glass is supposed to withstand over 1200 degrees, which is temperature during self cleaning. have a technician replace the door glass, as warranty should cover this.

thanks

Self Cleaning Feature

First... yes you should remove the racks before using self cleaning. Broil pan too if it is in there. Second... the doors will lock by themselves, you don't need to do anything there. typically it takes about 3 and 1/2 hours to go through the cleaning cycle and yes you can use the cooktop while it's cleaning.
