you may have lost your cookies.
Have you got 2 browsers on your PC?. Its always handy for troubleshooting. I use IE and Firefox, If something is not working with one I launch the other.
Most sign in problems can be cured by cleaning up internet browsers and re-setting cookies
Try this.
Download ccleaner and give it a couple of runs include 'registry' from left hand toolbar. Do not be alarmed by the amount of files you have to delete - especially if you do not clean out your browser on a daily basis.

Make sure 'caps lock' is not applied and type your password where you can read it, to ensure you have no sticky letters or numbers transposed.
Set your status to "offline" in yahoo MAIL by using the dropbox next to your name. This will allow you to have mail and messenger open at the same time.
Restart your computer
