After 18 months of average use my washing machine has been given its last rights. After Whirlpool agree to place the Control Unit , Rotor Assembly and some other part it still does not work. I am no longer getting the F51 Code but it agitates when it should spin and vice versa. The repairmen after working on it for 4 hours has given up and claims it is not repairable.Whirlpool basically is saying nothing at this point. If I said I was discusted by the whole thing it would be a unstatement. I am very handy and if I could get hold of a service manual I would fix it myself.
F51 lead to the "rps sensor" the repairman just fixed it for me.... but now after 2 loads, the water quit going into drum where it is suppose to.

If you own a Whirlpool Cabrio and are experiencing an F1 error, you're unable to finish or start a load of clothes. When the Whirlpool Cabrio displays an F1 error, this means the the control board is having difficulty communicating with the motor.
To fix your F1 error, you can first try to unplug your washing machine for 15 minutes and then plug it back in. If this doesn't work, you will need to replace the control board. The only tools that you need to replace the control board is a Phillips screw driver and a 1/4" hex head driver. Be sure to unplug the machine from the electrical outlet before performing any repairs.
After unplugging your Whirlpool Cabrio washer, carefully pull the washer away from the wall (Watch your drain hose and the two inlet hoses.) Next unscrew the 3 screws located on the back of the Whirlpool Cabrio. Next, take a picture or make note of where each plug connects to the control board. Next, unplug each plug and the pressure tube. Lastly, unscrew the 1/4 screw then remove control board. Replace with new control board and reverse your steps to install. The new board will fix the Whirlpool Cabrio F1 error.

My Whirlpool Cabrio HE is giving the F 51 code, only during the towels/Sheets setting. Is this the only mode that has the motor/sensor problem, or will it develop in the other modes as well?
I am having the f51 issue with my 1 1/2 yr old cabrio. Unacceptable for $960 washer! I am awaiting a reply from Whirlpool assuming they will fix this el gratis. FYI the cust service rep claimed this was NOT a common issue with this washer. I have to disagree after reading this blog! And now I'm afraid it'll never be fixed/always be a lemon of sorts. I'll post when I receive a reply from Whrlpool. I will not accept that this is just an issue with this model and my $900+ is for naught!
The machine will not agitate and skips washing the load. After it fills with water and should start agitating, it begins a drain and spin cycle. This cycle is usually interrupted by an OL error. The OL error can be resolved by taking out items or rearranging the load. Bottom line is that the agitating wash cycle is getting skipped, essentially just only rinsing the clothes.
