Normally, you would leave the current power connections attached and then line up or label the new cord lines with the old.

There should be a common ground, easy enough to dsitinguish.
A hot, normally black.
A return, normally white.

These may be swapped it the existing wire colors are.

Red = new black
Black = new white
Green or Blue = Green or bare.

I'm a bit surprised t read your post as the cord should have come with connection instructions if the replacement cord is different in color scheme from the old.

ALWAYS TAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING ON HOT LIVE POWER. NEVER MAKE CONNECTION CHANGES WHILE THE VACUUM IS PLUGGED IN.

IF AFTER YOU CONNECT THE NEW LINES, TEST THIS BY TURNING ON THE VACUUM AND TURNING IT OFF RIGHT AWAY. IF YOU HAVE POPPED A BREAKER OR SEEN BURNING, YOU HAVE TO SWITCH THE BLACK AND WHITE WIRES.

The best thing is to always go online and find the wiring layout for you model.

If you have any doubt, pleast post the wire colors you do see now coming to the connection terminal and post the colors coming out of your new power cord.

Regards,
Worldvet

Best Upright Vacuum You Can Buy!!

Paying a high price for a vacuum does not translate into best performance. My daughter purchased a Dyson (over $700.00) and after considerable goading, she accepted the challenge I had posed. Clean her carpet with her Dyson until she was satisfied that it was clean and then use my Kenmore SensorClean (no longer available by that name and over 10 years old) over the same area and see the results for herself. After the test, she stated she could feel the difference on her bare feet and immediately purchased the Kenmore Elite Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner ($279.00). The Dyson is now collecting dust (on the outside). With a build-in fiber-optic dirt sensor, you don't have to guess when the carpet is clean, the vacuum lets you know via the lights. Its suction power is second to none, the extra long cord lets you cover more area without having to change outlets and the direct-drive means no belts. You have 30 days on any purchase to return it, so try it for yourself, you may soon be purchasing a new vacuum that is worth every penny.

New replacement pump on Bissell ProHeat Protech not working

Not sure if I have the same model but this is what I found on mine this morning - wire to switch in the handle came off. Un-plug power cord. Unscrew top two screws on upright handle and remove the front cover above the trigger. see if wires are connected. top connector is not used - if you do solution will spray all the time. Good luck!

I have a hoover upright bagless - turbo power 6500 The cord has been run over and I just noticed white stuff on the cord where it is tattered. My husband said he saw it 6 months ago and never said...

It can be potentially dangerous. What you see is the cord insulation, if you move that a little you can see the power wires. They are coated and cannot hurt you if not damaged. If i were you i would wrap it in electrical tape or best thing would to get it replaced. You can replace it your self. Order the cable from Sears Parts store(link to your model)then your husband can install it. But not to sound rude if he didnt say anthing about that damaged power cord he may not be the right person for the job. He should have known it could be dangerous and thankfully your child wasn't hurt or you two either.
Here is the part number (Part# 46383334) and it will cost you about $20 plus shipping. The cord is item number 63. Let me know if you have further questions./

Replacing Power Cord Kenmore Progressive Upright

That actually sounds correct, if it's the model I'm thinking of. As long as you're talking about connecting to the wires that are held in by the wire nuts you should be good to go.

May need to break the unit down to replace the cord,there should be some tec screws under the belt cover to remove the motor housing cover, may be two to thee wires. the rest should be simple.
