I have a Kenmore 80 series dryer model number 110.76832501 and the drum is off balance, creating a noise similar to a washer that is heavier on one side. When I rotate the drum, it seems to be grinding in one area.

bad heater box fuse, get the model number from inside the dryer door, and go to your local appliance parts store and give them the number and they will get you a thermal fuse kit, remove the back of dryer and you will see the heater box on the right side
You may have something inside the workings of the dryer which has shorted out the heater coil. this could be the source of the noise as well. you need to remove the cabinet to access this, yet be careful as the drum will fall out on you in process. You can get a new coil from an appliance part store in your area. Take the dryer apart before buying this tho, so you don't waste your money on the off chance that this isn't the trouble. you will need make model and serial number from unit so they can match up the proper coil for you. Make note of how the belt is placed and routed for proper replacement when reassembling. Also make note of 'drum rollers' condition, as this could be some of the noise also.
Best to you, hope it works out
Joe
I HAVE SEEN MOST MARKS COMING FROM THE DRYERS. AS THEY AGE, THE FELT AIR SEALS ON THE DRUM DETERIORATE AND THE CLOTHES GET PINCHED BETWEEN THE DRUM AND THE BULKHEAD AT THE REAR OF THE DRUM. OTHERWISE CHECK THE HOLES IN THE WASHER TUB IF YOU HAVE A PORCALIN ON STEEL TUB IN THE WASHER.
Ok this is a really broad question, Kenmore will squeal when a belt tensioner or motor bearing is out, a frigidaire or small kenmore with control panel above the door and serial number starting with x will squeal when the bearing is out on the drum or the motor. This is a general cover on dryer noise with a model like Kenmore series 80 I can give solutions ok?
