Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5500 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Newly installed and getting error on printhead and ink cartridges

My 5300 Easy Share was only installed yesterday by a technician. However, when the printhead and ink cartridges were installed we continued to get the error message:
Printhead missing, not installed correctly or has come loose.
Install printhead and ink cartridges. If already installed remove ink cartridges and printhead, the reinstall. See User's Guide.
All hte above instructions were followed at least 20 times. The techie went home. It is still showing the same message. Please help. This is a brnad new printer just taken out of the box.
Is Fixya the Kodak support site? I don't think that I should have to pay for assistance when the printer has just been taken out of the box.
I would like to know if this is fixable or if it is a flaw or problem with this new printer.

    I didn't say I got it yesterday, I said I had it installed yesterday. I've had it a few months untouched in its unopened box because I hadn't been able to get someone to install it. Every time I made an appointment they either didn't turn up or cancelled. I am unable to do it myself - I would not have been able to lift it out of the box and I have no technical ability for installing or troubleshooting at all.

    No, fixya is not the Kodak support site. Since you just got it yesterday, I would say take it back and exchange it. You'd have it up and running by now and it'd save you the headache :c)

If that error happens every single time you turn on the printer, that pirnthead is faulty.
But if the error only happens some times, try a firmware update from www.kodak.com/go/downloads

How do i remove old printhead and install new one


Replacing the printhead If your printhead is damaged or broken, you may replace it yourself.
  1. Make sure your printer is turned on.
  2. Open the printer access door by lifting from the recessed hand-holds on the sides of the unit. autourg00977009id2130369.jpg
    The printhead moves to an accessible position for handling the ink cartridges. The ink cartridges are seated in the printhead.

  3. Pinch the latch on the ink cartridge with your thumb and forefinger and lift it out of the print head. Remove both ink cartridges.

    caution.gif CAUTION:
    Insert the ink cartridges into the newly installed printhead as soon as possible to prevent any drying of the ink.
  4. Unlatch the printhead by lifting the rectangular latch on the top of the printhead.

  5. Remove the old printhead from the carriage .

  6. Remove the new printhead from its bag.

    Do not touch copper contacts on the printhead, as this may damage it.
  7. Remove and discard the black plastic casing and the orange protective cap.

  8. Place the new printhead into the carriage.

  9. Push firmly against the target label on the printhead until you hear it click into place.

My KodakEasy Share 5300 will not print in black.


92b8b47.jpgThe Kodak AiO printers 5000 series and ESP series PRINTHEADs has orange protective cap that need to be remove to fit on the printer carriage. For the ink cartridges 7b91cbc.jpgthere is also a orange protective cap.
Issue that its not printing black and deep clean and removing the printhead and reinstalling the printhead (reseating printhead) is already done and still no black when printing. The printhead should be replace. For futher assistance call 1 800 421 6699 Kodak AiO printer support line

follow the step by step solution from kodak.

Choose All-in-one printer and then Print quality and follow the further steps. I think it's a problem with your printhead.

Try this one
Take out the inks and printhead
Leave the cartridge door open, then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while the access door is open
Close the cartridge door once the cord is unplugged
Reconnect the powercord, turn on the printer, then your printer will look for your printhead "Printhead missing or not installed correctly..."
Then put everything back. make sure it will snap in to place. Then print a calibration page, then scan it. This is just over writing the error message.

Answer : To resolve this error condition, correctly position a calibration page on the scanner. See the User's Guide for more information. How do I resolve the error message "Color ink cartridge missing or not installed correctly"?
Answer :
To resolve this error condition, reinstall the ink cartridge:
  1. Remove the color ink cartridge:
    1. Open the printer access door by lifting from the front center of the unit.
    2. Wait until the printhead is idle and silent, then pinch the latch on the color ink cartridge with your thumb and forefinger and lift it out of the printhead.
  2. Check the two electrical contacts on the ink cartridge for small marks, which should appear if the cartridge was installed correctly.

    If the electrical contacts do not have small marks:
    1. Reinstall the ink cartridge, making sure you press down on it until it clicks into position.
    2. Remove the color ink cartridge, then check the two electrical contacts on the ink cartridge again for small marks. Repeat if necessary.
    3. Reinstall the ink cartridge.
  3. Close the printer access door.

NOTE: See the User's Guide for more information about removing and installing the ink cartridge.
If the error persists:
  1. In the KODAK All-in-One Home Center, select the Help (?) icon.
  2. Select Maintenance.
  3. Select Firmware Upgrade, then follow the prompts to download the latest version of firmware, free of charge.

How do I remove old printhead and install a new one?


open the access door at the top of the printer

Remove the ink cartridges

Put your finger in the upper left corner of the printhead ( inside)

you will feel a small latch rigth there push it upward

the printhead will loose and you may now remove the printhead

New ink cartridge for Kodak Easy Share 5300 will not work


The version of firmware you originally had on the printer when you changed the ink cartridge was bad. There is a known issue that when you put in a new ink cartridge when the printer is in the error state "COLOR INK EMPTY. REPLACE COLOR INK CARTRIDGE" the unit writes that value to the new ink cartridge so you will continue to have that error.

So to fix your problem Open the access door and Remove the ink cartridges. Then download and install the new Firmware. Heres the link.

Then sadly you have to go get another new ink tank and install it.

If you can get through to kodak you should request reimbursement of some sort like a free set of ink tanks.
