Error message: Printhead missing, not installed correctly or has come loose

I had a tecnician install everything yesterday, but I keep getting the above error message: Printhead missing, notinstalled correctly or has come loose. Install printhead and ink cartridges. If already installed, remove ink cartridges and printhead, then reinstall. See User's Guide.

We followed above directions over and over again. He went home. The printer is still showing the above message. I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks,

Hi! I felt I got the wrong information from one of your technicians in telling me the printer was broken and to pack it up and send it back. So I contacted Kodak and they have sent a replacement part that has fixed the problem. A lot easier and more sensible than having to somehow carry the complete boxed printer to the Post Office as I don't have any transport. A little tough to try at 73. As I said before, I feel my payment should be refunded.

But thank you for followihng up.

Purchased an Kodak Easyshare 5500 All-IN-One printer in March, 2008. Replaced color and ink cartridges in July, 2008. This week without warning (August 14, 2008), the printer stopped printing black ink. The color ink continued to print fine, and I didn't receive any warning notifications to replace or reinstall the print head or either ink cartridge. After performing a basic, then a "deep" clean of the print heads, I replaced the black ink cartridge with a new one (even though it showed more than 3/4 full). With a fresh cartridge installed, and after recleaning the print heads, I was still unable to print with black ink.

After searching online, I came across a link for Kodak Customer Service: http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/c... I called the support line at 1-800-421-6699, and was connected with a live support technician. The technician asked me to explain the problem I was having (not able to print w/ black ink). He then had me remove and reinstall the black cartridge, then perform a basic printhead cleaning. When that didn't resolve the issue, the technician had me remove both the color and black ink cartridges, then remove the printhead. He then had me disconnect the power cable to the printer.

While we waited for 2 minutes to elapse, the technician asked me to provide the serial number for the print head (which was located on the side of the print head just above the "Made in China" inscription), as well as the Kodak service number (which is found on a bar-coded sticker located just to the left of the printhead access area, and below the illustrated cartridge replacement guide sticker).

After 2 minutes with the printer powered off, the technician had me reconnect the power cable, reinstall the printhead, and then reinstall both the black and color ink cartridges. He then had me perform a basic and a "deep" printhead cleaning. After that, he had me print a demo page, and asked me to describe the quality of the print job.

When I explained to the technician that the black ink was still not printing, the technician explained that the printhead was defective, and that it would need to be replaced. Since my printer was still within the 1 year warranty, the technician offered to replace the print head, plus the color and black ink cartridges free of charge. He took my name, email address, and mailing information, then provided me with an "order ticket number" and explained that my replacement parts would arrive in 1-3 business days.

I asked the technician how much the replacement parts would have cost had my printer been out of warranty. The technician dodged the question, assuring me that the printheads are designed to be functional "well beyond the normal life" of the printer. (I hope is printer life span is longer than the 1 year warranty!) At the time of this submission, I was awaiting the replacement printhead and ink cartridges. I'm hopeful that this will resolve my printing issue.

In regards to the error message with the printhead missing or come loose......I had that issue just shortly after I installed my printer. I was going crazy trying to fix it taking it out and reinstalling which was a pain, removing the cartridges and then the printhead to no avail. Finally I got smart and disconnected the power cord from the printer itself, not directly from the outlet. Once I did that and turned the printer back on the error was gone. It might have been a fluke, but it worked for me, so you might want to try it.

I am having the same problems with the printhead missing or loose. I have removed and installed..going crazy! This is my 3rd Kodak printer. Everytime something goes wrong they send me a new one or new part. I got this printer as a gift but am thinking of buying a different brand. What is a good printer or are they all junk?

Error message Printhead Missing or not installed correctly

The printhead is the device in which the ink cartridges sit. It may be mis-installed.
Take out the ink cartridges (carefully, you can get ink on yourself). Now using the gray latch on the right side of the carriage, remove and re-install the printhead. Jiggle it a little before lowering the latch to seat it.

Now, re-install the ink cartridges.

See if it works

Kadak Easy Share 5300 printer. Screen reads "Please wait"-stuck

Try this one
Take out the inks and printhead
Leave the cartridge door open, then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while the access door is open
Close the cartridge door once the cord is unplugged
Reconnect the powercord, turn on the printer, then your printer will look for your printhead "Printhead missing or not installed correctly..."
Then put everything back. make sure it will snap in to place. Then print a calibration page, then scan it. This is just over writing the error message.

Newly installed and getting error on printhead and ink cartridges

If that error happens every single time you turn on the printer, that pirnthead is faulty.
But if the error only happens some times, try a firmware update from www.kodak.com/go/downloads
