IBM T42 Thinkpad Notebook

This Notebook seems to have a USA keyboard. If I go into the Control Panel   and select UK English I found that by pressing pressing the Shift key and then pressing F3 I can then use "@" and "&" but I can't I change the $ key to "£". Is it possible to do so?

This has to do more with the bios programming than the keyboard. You will need to go to IBM's or Lenovo's support site and download a UK bios flash. This will set the machine to a European mode. NOTE- Lenovo's site is easier to navigate, start there.

Unfortunately XP is no longer supported. You need to download the language pack you require and go to Control panel, select Region and Language then change your language to English.

After I pwr up my Thinkpad T42 laptop, windows start up and ctrl/alt/del screen comes up. When pressed there is no response. It also appears the keypad is not working when keys are pressed.

Maybe your Keyboard is defective.

To check, plug an external keyboard on your laptop.

If it's working then you should see a laptop technician for the part replacement.

How do i use the at key on ibm t22 ?

my guess is at them moment your @ key comes up with a # and the £ key gives you a ".

This is because it is set to US english keyboard layout rather than UK English layout.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Keyboard

and change the language settings

Keys on keyboard not working properly

Go to control panel, regional and language settings, ensure that the correct keyboard is selected (A UK keyboard and USA English selected or a USA keyboard with UK English selected is often a cause)

When I press Shift 2 on my T41, instead of @ I get " and vice versa

Hi there.
The keyboard is set to English US, if you want standard UK keyboard settings go to the control panel, click on regional and language options, in regional options set both boxes to English (United Kingdom), you may have to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Good luck
