I have the same problem and major red lines over the rest of the screen. i purchased a service manual and opened up the machine. It does not look to me like there are any adjustment of mirror alignment that can be made by me. This just happened out of the blue.

    Hi,

I basically have your problem, but MUCH more advanced (mine started out like yours).

The picture below, shows the same screen (or what used to be) as in the photos above.

My father believes this to be due to capacitors getting old and dying.

In the OP's case and mine it *might* be the capacitor on the green LCD / sync which is dying.

My father is an electrical engineer, and so when he has time, will open it up and probe a bit with a volt meter.

I use this screen daily as a normal TV replacement, and even with this annoying problem (which goes away after 30 mins) feel that the 70" image is much better than my 28" crt ;@)

Will post back once we have fixed/killed the projector!

I bumped my screen by accident recently and now have a similar problem (multiple vertical and horizontal thin lines). I was told that the screen is now bad and probably cannot be repaired. The cost of replacement is more than the cost of a new set. Sorry, but that may not be the answer that you are looking for.

Bad news any lines like that mean the communication between the pixels and drivers is broken.
the glue has come loose.
Most will say it cannot be fixed
but there are tricks. it requires the panel to be taken apart.
Only a real tech can fix it.

I'm trying to fix the issue on my 43FDX20B. So far, I'm able to move the lines up and down, but can't get the left/right motion to fix it. The attached link has the dynamic mode instructions, so you can correct this issue yourself.

http://home.comcast.net/~leebailey00/Hitachi_DCAM_Manual.pdf

The only thing I didn't have was the screen overlay jig the manual talks about. I decided to create one myself and use the screen as a beginning template. I went to our local hardware store and picked up some home window weather covering. The roll cost about $15, is a clear strong plastic and the template was very easy to create. I used a straight edge after I put dots on the plastic and measured the lines for being square and equal after I took it off my tv. Good thing is that if you don't like what you make the first time, you have a 25' roll to use to try again (ha).

You need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-120 you will also need about four 6.8 ohm 1 watt resistors. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures. here is the link.

Upper corner of picture looks like 3D. picture on upper corner looks like it is off vertical with this happening. What do you do to fix this Hitachi 57F500 model?

projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hello

red, green, and blue lines curve across the top of tv is cause by defective convergence STK IC or you have open resistor at convergence section. if you have defective RGB Color vertical ramp probably you have defective STK IC..

Blurred picture

Sounds like a resistor in the convergence circuits or covergence amp ICs them selves. Usually the ICs will distort the picture. My guess would be the flame proof resistors near the ICs 1 or 2 may be oen. Let me know if you need anything further.
