Question about Maxtor Hard Drive

1 Answer

Need help on how to attach jumpers on Maxtor Hard Drive Model # 4D040H2

I have a Maxtor Hard Drive Model # 4D040H2 that I removed from an old PC.

I want to use it on another computer using an external enclosure that has already been purchased.

My question is the set up on the jumpers.

When I removed the hard drive, one of the jumpers was not attached.

The hard drive has a diagram on the metal face. However, I am having a problem understanding the arrangement of the jumpers that I need for this installation.

The following boxes are shown:
Master
Slave
4092 Cylinder Limit
Cable Select Enabled

Please review and advise me how to properly attach the jumpers.

Thanks,

Leon Kowitz

It is in my experience with hard drives used in external USB enclosures - the jumpers are not nessessery.

I have two suggestions.

  • First check and clean your connections.
  • Update your drivers by CLICKING HERE.
  • Lastly, let Microsoft scan your operating system and fix, if necessary, any problems in three easy clicks. CLICK HERE

I have an old (1995) maxtor disk model 71626AP out of my old computer. I think I want to install it as a slave in my windows/XP desktop computer. Other than removing the jumper at J20, is there anything...

Windows will recognize it. Just be sure the other drive is jumpered as master/primary and the old drive is jumpered as slave/secondary and that they connect to the same IDE cable.

Installing old maxtor HD on newr pc, have to change it to a slave

J50 is the one furthest from the power connector. To make it a slave remove ALL of the jumpers.

This looks like documentation from the time but it is not from a manufacturer's site.
