Samsung Syncmaster 192N 19" LCD Monitor Logo

After several hours of inactivity, the screen on my SyncMaster 192n goes black, and the only way to turn it back on is by hard re-booting my computer. Sometimes even ctrl-alt-del doesn't work, and I have to turn off the power strip several times to both the monitor and PC. It didn't used to act this way; a simple mouse-swipe used to re-activate it. When the screen does come back on, it usually works fine, unless I walk away for several hours or leave it overnight. As an experiment, I hooked up a different PC that uses a different OS to the monitor, and the same thing happens after several hours. To be sure it's something with the SyncMaster and not my computers, I dragged up my old CRT monitor, and both computers and old CRT monitor operate perfectly fine. I don't have hibernate enabled.

My guess is your video card driver has been altered and is causing the problem. Try rolling back the driver before reinstalling the monitor. Here is a link to the manual for your monitor: http://www.flatmonitors.com/Samsung170N.pdf

From the above manual: "The PowerSaver system operates with a VESA DPMS compliant video card installed in your computer. Use a software utility installed on your computer to set up this feature".

SOURCE: Samsung SyncMaster 192N loses picture; requires re-boot

Unfortunately, you two have two unrelated problems. CB, the monitor isn't asking you for the password, that's the computer itself going into hibernation, which shuts down the video output, hard drive, etc. You need to go into the power-save settings and either disable hibernate, or change the settings to your liking.

The other question about the screen staying on for 5 seconds... thats an inverter board problem.

SOURCE: No display on SyncMaster 920NW after reboot from power failure

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. Look in our monitor repair section for step by step repair guide for this model it should be the same power supply as the 930. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

SOURCE: monitor to black, power LED blinks, hard re-boot and it works

Take a look at your power saving settings. It sounds like the monitor is set to sleep after 20 or 30 minutes. You may want to change your setting to "never". The settings are under Control Panel - Power management

SOURCE: computer screen is black

Two things come to mind...

If the monitor is fitted with moister sensors it will as a safety measure not turn on, this can be due to damp in the room etc.

Second and more probable is the fuse has blown on the circuit board to the monitor. you will unplug power lead open back up and look for a smaller than plug size fuse which is chrome ended and clear glassed. About 3/4 inch long and 1/8th dia.

Ensure these are replaced with a similar graded fuse. Maplins is a safe bet to obtain them. best to take old one in with you.

My monitor stays on for approx. and goes off. Taking the power off for a few minutes, it goes back on for a few minutes then goes off agoin. What is the problem?

Seen a spate of these issues of late, I'd think its caused by failing Power capacitors, either bulging or blowing or leaking. You need to get this checked by a technician or TV repairman

When I turn on the monitor the green power light flashes, however, the screen stays black. If I disconnect the cable from the computer the monitor shows a box on the screen that says no signal. If I...

It could be a bad cable, a bad connector on the screen itself, a major problem with the screen and something as simple as the driver or settings on your graphics card.
If you are trying to use the screen as a secondary screen you need to enable it on the Operative System. Try different cables and different cables for the other connector types available on your screen and graphics card. Try another screen with your current setup too, and if possible try your screen with other PC. These tests will show you what kind of problem you are experiencing and will provide you the solution too.
