Norton 360 - autochk not found

Hi, I downloaded norton 360 and it had issues installing correctly, a norton removal tool popped up stating I had to remove previous version of norton. Once I it the ok key the computer then completed it's business next stating it needed to be rebooted in order for changes to take effect. Clicked ok - now the machine attempts to boot however a light blue screen appears after the load screen stating that autocheck not found skipping autocheck - and continues to reboot itself however never getting past that. I have Windows XP home operating system. - Can anyone advise?? Many thanks.
