SOURCE: wont stay lit

go to this site www dot desatech dot com. Here you'll find parts to repair your heater. a propane heater uses a millivolt generator to sense the flame. along it's cappilary are two push on spde connectors. these connect to the high limit temperature sensor which is mounted on the flame backplate of your heater. to see if it is the high limit shutting down your heater, jumper across the two spade connectors. if the heater stays on, this is your problem. if the flame still goes out, then the millivolt generator is shot.

You may need to replace the Thermocoupler. It screws into the gas regulator and the sensor end is set in the flame of the pilot light. You can get one at any appliance parts store. The Thermocoupler simply feels the heat of the pilot light and sends a very small amount of voltage to the gas switch that opens when your thermostat calls for heat. If the pilot light isnt lit, no voltage from the sensor and no gas can be released by the regulator.
Anyone can replace one. Just find the tip that sits in the the pilot flame when you try to ignite the pilot light. Follow it down to the regulator and unscrew it. There is no gas involved. It is Ultra Low Voltage. No danger.
Be sure to turn off the power to the unit before you begin removal. Take it to the parts store along with your furnace brand and model number. If you see any identifiers on the regulator, note them and take them with. When you replace it be sure to have the sensor end up in the flame of the pilot.

Make sure the pilot is clean (Blue flame fully enveloping the top portion of the thermocouple) if its dirty the pilot will be yellow like a candle and barely touching the thermocouple ...quick fix is knock the pilot with a screwdriver...gently tapping it...knocking the dust out and getting a better pilot....the pilot could also be too small if its not making good contact with the thrermocouple....there could also be an Auxillary limit wired into the thermocouple which when open will prevent the magnet from staying closed....if all looks fine then the Gas Valve itself is likely gone (The magnet inside is not field repairable)

SOURCE: warm morning propane heater. new thermal couple.

There are basically three things that can go wrong with the Warm Morning .
Sensor shut off. There is a sensor button on the back of the unit with a wire going from it to the thermocouple. This sensor turns the heater off if the flue is blocked, however it will also shut the heater off if the wire contacts are dirty, or if the sensor has gone bad.
You can test this by bypassing the sensor. Disconnect the two wires from the sensor and reconnect them directly together. If the pilot stays on, your problem is here. Try cleaning the wire contacts first.
Pilot orifice. If the pilot flame is small and doesnt look healthy, the pilot orifice may need cleaning. The hole is very small and can get dirty. Disconnect the silver tube and clean with electrical parts cleaner. Never try to clean the hole with an object like a pin, you may damage it. You may have to slide out the burner unit to get at the silver tube. (Always shut off gas before disconnecting lines and after you reassemble, spray joints with soapywater and look for small bubbles which may indicate a gas leak. Dont use parts cleaner around an open flame.)

Thermocouple can go bad but this is not as common as the first two problems.

Pilot lite won't stay lit

Thermostat flame sensor. Do you see a little rod next to the pilot? That is what tells the main gas valve that the pilot is lit and it is safe to give gas. Easy swap, and you can usually just pick up a generic one.

I changed the thermo coupler and the pilot light does stay lit but the burners won't light

If you are referring to a gas fireplace:

  • Make sure the pilot knob is turned from "pilot" to "ON" or it will never run.
  • If the pilot knob is "ON", and the pilot is lit, but the burner won't light, it could be a bad Thermopile. The thermopile is the other safety mechanism in the pilot assembly that controls the burner.

Pilot won't stay lit on furnace

Is that pilot automatic? If so then a quick easy fix for this is to located the sensor and replace it or clean it up with sand paper. After ignition the control is looking for verification of ignition from that sensor. How to videos

Pilot light on the gas boiler won't stay lit it's

The pilot flame must touch (burn) the tip oqef the t-couple to hold the magnet in the gas value open.make sure the pilot orifice (hole) is clear.the pilot pressure (in the tube) is factory set full open & can only be adjusted down (less). Also check the gas **** didn't get closed or turned half way.? Assuming its not the t-couple. If all is good & it still won't stay on. Replace the gas value.!
