Buy a new printer. Since you give no specifics..make or model number..get a new one..HP or Canon.

What does initializing mean

Initializing means that the printer is starting up and getting all functions ready such as fax, print engine, scanner. If your printer is freezing with just initializing on the screen then there is a problem. If you have added any extra memory to the printer remove and try to restart. Most common failure is the formatter itself.

HOW DO YOU RESET THE ERROR MESSAGE 0xc18a0207 on an HP 6100 series all in one ?

A. - Press and hold the “*” key.
B. - Press the “#” key and release both keys.
Display should say “Enter Special Key Combo”
C. - Press and release in sequence the “1”, “2” and “3” buttons.

1. Press and release the “OK” button.
2. Display should say “Hardware failure status”. If not there already, Arrow Key over to “Hardware failure status”,
3. Press and release the “OK” button.
4. Display should say “Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear”.
5. Press and release the “OK” Button. Message changes to “Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue”.
6. Press and release the “CANCEL” button as many times as necessary, so that, either the “Welcome to Photosmart Express” screen appears, or, the “Ink System Failure” screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.
7. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.
8. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer
9. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message “USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER” followed by “PRESS OK TO CONTINUE”. Press OK.
10. If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the “ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS”. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.
11. To verify printer functionality print a SELF TEST PAGE. If SELF TEST prints, then printer is ready for use or Software Installation.
If the error is still there, or reoccurs replace the unit

Scanner mechanism stuck, making loud clicking sound

I've just got this problem after a powercut, whilst it was not being used but on. If you have only had it a few months send it in warranty.
Think I will have to take this apart and see if the scanner cable/ribbon/drive belt is caught on something or been stretched too much and can be replaced at all.
Its like at one end its caught and wont move the scanning head being stuck somehow, caught on something (doubtful tho').

Machine won't print

Scanner failure means that the scanner bulb is no longer working. There are a few things that can sometimes bring it back but it may be a permanent issue.
1) Make sure printer is directly into the wall and not a surge protector or power strip
2) Remove cartridges from printer
3) Unplug power from back of printer and wait 30 seconds
4) While printer is unplugged press the # and 6 keys and plug power cord in. Keep holding # and 6 until the printer has either powered off or it says semi-full reset
5) Go through initialization process - if it works great the issue with firmware is fixed. If not then the scanner bulb isn't functioning and you are looking at replacing the unit.

Scanner lockup

Remove both the ink cartridges from the All-In-One.
Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet.
Now move the carriage (carriage is the one which holds the cartridge) Too and Fro till you feel the carriage is moving smoothly.(You can apply little more pressure if it does not move easily)
Then insert the cartridges close the access door.
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector.(If possible connect it to a different power outlet)
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)
Now try printing a test page or make a copy

If it still makes a loud noise and the message comes up as scanner failure, then either the scanner or the scanner machanisum is bad, you may have to replace the unit

Good Luck

Paper jam

MOST HP PRINTERS HAVE A DOOR ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE PRINTER THAT CAN BE OPENED TO REMOVE A PAPER JAM. HAVE YOU TRIED USING THIS TO CLEAN THE PAPER JAM. THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING STUCK IN THE PAPER PATH THAT IS CAUSING THE JAMS. CHECK THE WHOLE PAPER PATH FROM THIS REAR ACCESS DOOR. OK?
