It sounds like it's probably a bent pin inside of the card slot. If you can get a flashlight or good light source to check inside the slot, you may see that...it is a pretty easy fix, but not advisable to do it yourself because they are very fragile pins and you may just end up breaking it off. This is the most common cause of the cf card issue.

If this is not the case, try taking the battery, date time battery (a 3 volt battery located in the battery compartment), and of course, the card out. Put them all back and try again. Sometimes the date time battery stores error messages also.

If neither of these solutions work for you, I suggest that if you can do without your camera for 2-3 weeks, give Canon a call and send it in for service. That'd be the best way to ensure that whatever the problem is, it gets solved by people who are familiar with your product.

Of course since you are beyond the one year warranty period, you are free to find a local repair facility of your choice. Just make sure they are not going to send it to Canon and tack on an additional cost, but that they can do it on location. The manufacturer is usually the most economic repair for a product.

Hello

OK, this specific unit supports up to a 8GB Ultra CF card.

Have a look at the link below. It should be sufficient.

Feel free to let me know if you need any further information.

check deep inside the card slot to see if you have any bent pins. They can often be straightened out with a thin screwdriver.

Why does the word, ''busy'' pop up on the canon rebel xti?

This is the camera writing to the CF memory card. Perhaps your card is a lttle slow, so you will see the message. I use the Sandisk Ultra II CF, labelled as 15Mb/sec and it is very very fast indeed - I don't have any lag with my XTi. Try a different CF, if it is fast enough, the message will go away. Ensure you format the card on the camera too.

Err CF

I had the same message on my EOS/Rebel XTI and the camera shop concluded that one of the pins where the card is inserted into the camera had come loose. They sent the camera back to Canon for repair. Luckily, it was still under warranty at the time.

Err CF

Observe the connector inside camera, using a flashlight. If there is a bent pin take the camera to service immediately. Don't turn it on any more as we did in one similar case - creating a short circuit that damaged the camera electronics and voided the warranty.

If no visible problems, remove battery and leave it out overnight.

Rebel XT will not work with new faster CF cards.

Check the volume and speed of memcard, maybe it is not compatible. error 99 is an indication that a lens or shutter curtain is not working, so i cant see any connection with the memcard problem. Check your camera memcard compatibility.
