My Toshiba Satellite A215-S7422 has recently begun randomly shutting down while on the internet. The Blue lights for power and battery are both on when this happens. As I am often in the middle of work (I telecommute), this is very frustrating. I'll try the Bios download.

I'm not sure if upgrading bios help. If you had the same problem I had, this is how I fixed it. I read up on these toshibas that they turn off at random due to CPU not venting heat efficiently, and it's overheating quick. The system shuts it off at a certain temperature. I'm not sure how good you are with computers, but I had to tear it apart down to the motherboard.

It was my first time opening a laptop so I wasn't a pro at it but it's not too much different than a desktop. It's just with a desktop, everything is easier to get to and you can see everything on one side of the mother board. Laptops, it's just more compact at uses both sides of the motherboard. I bought this thing called Arctic Silver 5. It's a thermal compound that you paste on the CPU. It helps absorb and disperse the heat to the heat sink. With shipping, I paid no more than $7. Paid $200 for this laptop because whoever had it couldn't fix it. You can tell this is your problem if you lift your heatsink off the CPU, and notice that the thermal compound is disentegrating, or not evenly spread on the CPU. I'm sure that's what your problem is.

I went to the Toshiba support site for the same issue and found this bios driver download that's supposed to fix the problem http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlView.jsp?soid=1991432&moid=1852724&rpn=PSAFGU&BV_SessionID=@@@@1305570264.1204739264@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdadedhjmmfefcgfkceghdgngdgnn.0&ct=SB&all_docs=false I'm installing it now. I'll see what happens.

I fixed this same problem using a registry scanner. Here's a link to a good free one:

I've used this one and it sped up my computer by quite a bit. Hope this helps.

I have a toshiba satellite L445D-S5976 and I am experiencing the black screen but this is different from most of the problems I've seen on here, whenever I try to turn it on the fans start up fast then...

hey.. Well this is one of 2 problems, More than likely the BackLight on your screen is dead. Dont worry that's a common problem and the fix basically is to replace the screen. You can order the screen online and then simply remove the old one from the housing by first removing the rubber plugs then the screws hidden under the plus. lift the lid off and unscrew and replace the screen. The reason why the monitor may not be turning on is because you need to switch the primary display. If you look carefully at the keyboard you will notice that there a key written Fn usually in blue, Thats the function key. There will be another key with a blue Monitor symbol usually f8 (may not be the same on yours). you hold Fn and press that key to enable the external Monitor.

If you were doing that then this is the reason for your problem. THE GPU (graphics processing Unit ) usually called the graphics card is Damaged. unfortunately yours is built onto the ma board which means to fix this you have to replace the entire board. But thats a very very rare issue. I'm betting that the First (above) one i mentioned about the Back Light is the reason for your problem..

Becuase the fan turn on loud and then settles down it means the main board is functioning properly ad the system is booting its just that you cant see it because of the back light and not switching the display unit.

Blue screen repeatedly

Try to turn off the computer, remove the cables and battery on the laptop. Press and hold the power button for 8 seconds , then reinsert back the cables and battery on the laptop. Turn on the pc and observe the if there is the blue screen. If still there is, try to repair the pc and insert your recovery disc given by Dell , I suppose. Then restart the pc and repeatedly press F12 on the laptop then select CD/DVD ROM and wait for the prompt to repair the computer. If still not working, the problem will be either the operating system or the motherboard itself. I suggest you call Dell to resolve this issue if symptom persists...

The laptop turns on, but the screen stays black

If you can shine a light into the screen and faintly make out the images? Then it's probably the inverter/backlight board, not too expensive or difficult to replace in most cases. Let us know.

Wireless Internet causes blue screen of death

-- "limited conn.."-- you should configure the internet connection in the router's software ie 192.168.2.1 or any other IP for the router, use ISP help desk for this (if it's free).

Blue screens have numbers and sometimes explanations, usually they pop up because of incompatible driver, chek router software(driver) compatibility.

explanation of blue screens are in the following link:
