Could be clogged. Check hose check sole plate if its an upright, check handle of hose if its a canister type or check the filter inside the bag/bin area i.e the white or black filter either behind the paper bag or cyclone- if its clogged with dirt then the vacuum may have functioned its thermal cut out - which can take up to 45 minutes until the motor cools down and resets itself.

My lift off revolution vacume shuts off

Hi Kathryn! Your Lift-Off vacuum is equipped with a Thermal Protector that will turn your vacuum off if the motor starts to overheat. This can be caused by dirty filter or reduced air flow.

Here's a quick link to troubleshooting steps to assist you:

Vacum shuts off

If you have BISSELL vacuum, some of our models have a brush reset. Here are the instructions to turn it back on:

If something becomes lodged in the foot and the

brush shuts off, turn the cleaner off and unplug

from the outlet. Remove the obstruction. The

brush will automatically reset when the cleaner
is plugged in and turned back on.

Additionally, you could have dirty filters that are activating a thermal protector switch that shuts the vacuum off if the motor becomes too hot. If this is the case unplug the vacuum, clean any filters, clogs, or obstructions and wait 30 minutes for the unit to cool. Then plug the unit in and it should work. I hope this helps.

The vacum will run until the hose is inserted and then the motor shuts off. The vacum switch must be hooked up incorrectly. Do you have a schematic?

Before trying to take it apart, check the hose for a blockage. Disconnect the hose at both ends, drop a coin in one end, lift that end of hose allowing coin to drop through. If it doesn't come through, there's a clog. You should be able to clear it by plugging the hose into the exhaust port of the vacuum, holding the other end to the in port, and turning on.
Another possible problem is a dirty afterfilter. Remove the air diffuser/tool holder on the back of the vacuum. If the filter is dirty, it blocks the air flow and the vacuum will shut off due to overheating. Remove it, connect the hose, and turn on the vacuum.
If you don't have a manual, you can download it at the below site. Click on the space under "older models", click on Ambassador III, and download.
Information for removing the air diffuser is on page 9.

When you open the canister you eill see a little rubber hole that senses when your bag is full. This must be clogged. If you have another vac try to vacume all the dusr from this hole and any other opening inside the vacume that you can reach. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate this answer.

Vacume Overheating

There will be a filter between the cylinder/bag and the engine. If your vacuum has a HEPA filter there will be one on the other side of the engine. Remove both of these and clean them out with water, allow to dry and replace.
