Welcome to Fixya. Nintendo Dsi/DS/Ds XL connects to the internet using wireless connection. You need to know the settings of your router. I've listed below the steps on how you will access the router and to obtain the information needed for you to be connected.
How to access the Router: To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab check you Network Name or SSID. On the Security Mode you can check the security if you're using either WEP or WPA. Then you need to remember the Netowrk Key you can also personalize your Network Key. The Network Key serves as a password on your network to make it secure. Then Save the settings
Take Note of the SSID and the Network Key Now that we already know the setting of the router then its now time to connect the Dsi to the network.
1. Go to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings of the Game
2. Search for an Access Point (SSID)
3. Select your Network (SSID), If you have an open network, just click "OK" and it should work just fine! If it's a Red Padlock, it'll prompt you for a Password or Network Key. This is the reson why we access the router.
You can reset the wireless router simply by pressing the little button in the back of the router for 15 seconds (using a pen or needle). This will reset the entire router back to default where the "admin" username and blank password will work. To reinstall, just go to Linksys website and download the software for your brand. It will walk you thru easy setup and will take you approximately 5 minutes to reinstall.
You dont need a driver for the wireless router. If your laptop can recieve wireless signal(from a wireless router) all you need is an active internet connection, configure the laptop and router to distribute the internet, you're good to go.
If your laptop cant recieve a wireless signal from a wireless router then you might need a USB Wifi Dongle.
Your DS may need another connection that is only blocked with a red lock. (Meaning WEP code locked.) If so, phone a computer tech support to help you set a connection with Wifi (wireless connection) and ask him/ her to set it to WEP code and "blocked". Then ask them to temporarily leave while you set your WEP password. A grey lock means that your DS is not compatible to your access point.
Please confirm the manufacturer and model for the router being used?
The router in the heading of this message does not appear to have
Secondly in terms of your sisters machine assuming it has an ethernet port have you tested it using the cable just to make sure there are no (software) firewall issues on her computer affecting access to access the internet.
Sorry I have no Nintendo DS knowledge specifically. I may try to research the issue after the router and laptop issues are resolved.
Are there any other wireless devices (computers) currently working correctly with your wireless router/access point?
