Question about Stoves 900DFa Dual Fuel (Electric and Gas) Kitchen Range

1 Answer

How do you open the top of a 900DFa?

I need to replace the thermal cut out switch, as the oven is randomly turning off and on. Does anyone know how to raise the cooking surface/hob part of the range cooker? I have released the fascia, so the front of the hob now lifts up a little, but the back seems securely fixed with no signs of screws etc that will release it. Very grateful if anyone can post a reply.

Many thanks for the prompt reply, no securing screws there but that did allow a little more leeway to get access.

Take off side panels and i think you will find that is where the securing screws are

I haev had this problem. The oven is badly designed as far as i can see. The side panels are attached with 2 screws front and back. However even with these removed it is difficult to get to the electrical control knobs at the front. It looks like you have to take off the top panel to do this - which is held on by screws under each gas burner. These seem to strip/break easily - so i gave p trying to get it off. In theory the gas jets and controls are then left behind . Shame Stoves did not design it with a front removal panel so you could get at the electric knobs fron the front!

From my experience the most common reason for this failure is a thermal switch for cooling fan. It is located on the upper side between the wiring and its function is to switch off the cooling fan when the temperature drops even though the oven is already turned off. If the cooling fan does not work then it will increase the temperature on the cabinet and the main temperature limiter will switch off the oven.

There are seperate thermal (overheat) cutout devices for both the top and bottom ovens. First check to see if the lower oven fan is running ok and is not restricted by grease or fat (there are 4 self tapping screws that hold the fan cover on) and the thermostat is switching off and on as it should. You should also check that the main background cooling fan is running and switches off a few mins after the ovens have turned off. If these check out ok, then it is possibly the lower oven thermal cutout.

Stoves 900DFa oven cuts out

Hi.

The most probable cause is failure in your panel cooling fan 9not the one inside your oven)

If the appliance switches on again after 15 - 20 minutes then the fault is most likely here.

Unfortunately as you have gas the you will need a Gas Safe Certified engineer to repair

I have a Competence B1180, it cuts out after irregular periods of time, although sometimes it may even complete a cooking cycle, if turned off for 10-15min it will re-start, but invariably cuts out again...

Could be caused by either of following;

1. Faulty thermostat.
2. Faulty thermal cut out switch. (controls power to cooling fan).
3. Faulty cooling fan (not fan inside oven).

Test thermostat by setting thermostat to low temperature like 60 oC. If oven gets much hotter then its a faulty thermostat.
To test cooling fan and thermal switch take oven out and remove top or rear panels to expose components.
When oven gets hot the cooling fan should turn on. If it doesn't then check to see if there is a mains voltage present.
If mains current exist but fan is not turnig then replace fan. If mains voltage is not present then its the thermal switch.

Pull the range, remove the back cover and locate the thermal switch and the oven TOD. Check both parts for continuity. Replace any of them if it's open.

Oven heats up then cuts out, no light etc then comes back tolife after 5/10 mins.

Sounds like it could be the thermal cut out switch - I am having a similar problem. The switch is about £10 delivered from the Stoves spares dept. I can't work out how to open the top to change the switch though! Have you managed to solve the problem and can you add anything re opening the top?!

Electrolux Oven EOB6630, similar to above

Hi, I've had a similar problem with my electrolux EOB4633. I've replaced the "thermal cut out unit" and it's working now. Basically this unit switches on the outer casing fan ( on top in my oven ) to keep the casing from overheating. When the thermal cut out doesn't work it fails to switch on the fan and the casing overheats, the oven then cuts out completely until it has cooled down and the cycle starts again.

The bit to be replaced ( part no 8996619267611 ) is located on top of the oven, under the outer cover, just behind the timer & selector switch. It's a small ( 1inch long ) silicon sleeve with 4 wires coming out of it, just unplug the wires and replace it with the new one ( unplug/disconnect the power to the oven, or switch of the power at the mains switch first ), then remove the oven outer top cover ( all you need is a screwdriver ). You'll see the offending unit, probably tie wrapped to one of the wire bundles, quite easily - mine was blackened and charred.

Good luck!
