Question about Sony VAIO VGN-CR220E/P Notebook

Problem with startup

I contacted VAIO and i was told that my problem was probably hardware, my laptop takes about 10 minutes to start up and when it does not all programs are working correctly. I did a system recovery but it is still not working, i purchased a Performance Service Plan and i was told it would cover me even if i don-t live in the US, I live in Guatemala and the people from VAIO told me i was not covered. Can you help me with this problem, because i was told i did have warranty, i bought my laptop in Orlando Florida in December last year.

This is gennerally cuased by a hard drive failure. Replace the hard drive, reload the operating system and your machine will be fine. As far as the warranty, that is something you'll have to take up with Sony. Try to get them to send you a preloaded hard drive, you may have to send them yours.

Evreytime i startup my dell inspiron 1300, it takes at least 15 minutes to start

You probably have a lot of programs starting in the startup. Try to change the settings so that they don't start in the startup. Also try un-installing programs you no longer need. Hope that helps.

Probably needs more RAM. How much is in it? The locking up could represent a bad memory sector in your current RAM (the computer locking up every time it hits that sector(s)) among other things. You can grab a linux live CD and do the memory test to be sure...it takes a long time tho.

You can speed up the startups by going to Start > Run > MSconfig and tweaking the tab that has the programs that start when windows starts and tweaking the services that start up...just be sure of what you are turning off

Reinstall your operating system and you will get rid of all these unpleasant malware. Another short term sollution is to enter msconfig and uncheck the programs that are starting with your O.S. To do this press Win Key + R and then type msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck the programs that aren't necessary. Leave only the O.S. components. But for a safer solution, reinstall your operating system. From what you are saying you could have some viruses and malaware. If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. P.S. Here is a tips & trick that will help you after reinstalling your O.S.: http://www.fixya.com/support/r4213055-quickly_reinstall_operating_system Cheers

Hey

Hi, have you tried reinstalling using the recovery partition?
When the Vaio boots up, start tapping F10 several times. When you see a screen:"Edit boot options", hit the Enter button on the keyboard to load the Recovery Partition. On the menu select:"Compete system restore", then on the right hand side select Start. If you are offered to do Hardware Diagnostics or Restore C:drive first, select the Skip option at the bottom and select Next.Follow the instructions to start the recovery. It takes two hours, so make sure the power adaptor is connected.
If you have formatted your hard drive or deleted the recovery partition, you have to contact Sony to get a set of recovery discs. They will probably charge you, so if you have a friend with the exactly same Vaio, use his recovery discs.

Most computer shops as well as the "Geek Squad" have a small program called Samurai Password reset. It takes less than 10 minutes and will clear all passwords for all operating systems. I am not sure what they charge for the service but it is not a big deal. This program os designed to clear User account passwords and not BIOS or startup passwords.

Probably you have too many programs on startup. That is why it is taking so long.

Sony vaio

If you are talking about the battery only lasting 10 minutes when the pc is not attached to the A/C adapter, then the answer is most probably yes. It's time to get a new battery.

If you are talking about this happening when the A/C adapter is attached, then maybe not.

Let me know which situation you are experiencing and we can go from there.
