The cable will attatch to the back of the speedo, and attatch at the front wheel. You should have a speedo spacer installed on the left side of the rim ( between the tire and the front left fork leg ) . It screws into the spacer. then there is a little locking set screw to hold the cable from unscrewing itself.

Taking off the speedo?

The older Harley speedos are driven by a cable and can easily be replaced by any type of cable driven speedo. I assume your Sporster has the tank mounted dash (my 72 is this way), it's fairly simple too unbolt the dash and remove the speedo. If you're wanting to replace yours with a newer (electronic pick-up) that could be quite a project. Hope this helps

Electrical Problem with my fatboy

If you have the electric speedo, then it's one problem. There is a relay that all three of these go through in order to work. I'll bet you popped the relay. I don't know exactly where the relay is, but your local dealer can give you the location. If you have the manual speedo, the it's two probs. First, the cable to the speedo gear on the front hub has most likely pulled out a bit, and second, the same relay as before, only the speedo isn't routed through it.

This model has an electronic speedo, so check the wires and connections for the speedo. Also check for any inline fuses or relays that may have blown.

Hi there

The cables which go to your Speedo might be faulty. Try replacing the cables and see if that helps at all.
