How is the easiest way to repair the speedo drive worm gear on a Holden Trimatic transmission, it is loose and sliding along the shaft. Box is still in car and this observation is from the speedo cable...

remove the rear extension housing of the transmission( remove tail shaft and rear cross member--transmission pan on jack) the drive hear is held in place by a small spring clip that fits under the gear on the shaft. The drive is by a small ball bearing in the hole in the shaft
If the gear is damaged you should be able to pull it back off the output shaft of the transmission.
watch for transmission oil coming out when you remove the extension housing.

90 SOFTAIL SPRINGER HOW TO GET DASH PANEL OFF THE BIKE

Usually, you have to take the small reset knob off the tripmeter and the center nut off the dash. The dash will come over the speedo but you have to get it just right and it'll come up.

Speedometer not working on 1994 Honda CB1000. Needle would move periodically. Odometer and trip meter kept working for a while then became less accurate. I just replaced the speedometer with brand new...

Hi there, Your problem will most likely be that the speedo drive coller has failed!
This is an easy fix,( Part number of the part is 44808-MR7-013) you will be able to order it from your local dealer.
The speedo on the CB1000 Big One is driven off your front sprocket, you will need to take off the side covers on the left hand side of the bike.Stars by disconnecting the gear selector from its shaft (check the two marking dots, on the end of the shaft and selector, make sure you refit in same position!) then take out the 3 fixing bolts and remove outer cover. then you will have to remove 3 long bolts only ( leave the short servo bolts) this will let you remove the inner sprocket cover. and on the Nut of the front sprocket is a small white round drive bush. this is what will have failed check for damage! and replace. I would recommend changing the speedo cable at this point to. if your speedo cable has snagged inside its sleeve, it will go stiff causing the drive bush to crack or round out.

Odometer not working

Could be that speedo cable has become disconnected or that the inner shaft has broken. The speed cable is connected between the back of the instrument cluster and the left side of the transmission. Check under the car that the cable is securely fitted to the side of the transmission. Disconnect it and and check on the condition of the square drive flexible shaft. The spinning of this inner shaft is what conveys the output shaft speed of the transmission to the instruments. The instrument cluster can be removed but pushing a length of coat hanger wire with right angle turn on its end between the the cluster and the dashboard surround. Turn the coat hanger to hook behind the cluster and pull forward to remove it. Try several points around the cluster. It is best to disconnect the speedo drive cable to withdraw the cluster (after electrical connections have been disconnected. check that the speedo cable is secure to the back of the instruments. If you remove the cluster completely follow the path of the speedo cable. If you have to replace the cable, tying a length of string to the speedo cable end first and posting the string down the cable path will help the re-installation enormously. Simply pull the string whilst reinstalling the instrument cluster until the end of the speedo can be got hold of. Refit the speedo cable to the transmission only after the instrument cluster is back in place.

Hello and welcome. the clunk noise is caused by the steering I-shaft. this noise can usually be repaired by just removing the i-shaft and lubing. the speedo problem is normally a internal cluster problem. check with your local dealer. some of these trucks with speedo problems are covered under a special warranty

Honda 2008 EX...install Outside temp gauge feature in tripmeter

You already have one if it is an EX or EX-L. Check your owners manual on how to toggle through the odometer read-outs. It is in the same little window near your speedo where the trip odometer is.

1989 Audi 500 se Automatic - Speedomoter

The gear on the odometer is stripped. Quite the common problem with Audi's of this vintage. Parts available at: http://speedometergears.com/

To fix, you have to pull the gauge cluster, remove the speedo from the cluster, then remove the odometer from the speedo. The gear replacement is pretty easy once you get it all apart.

Speedo problem

Your spedo needle could be bent.

I noticed that many of the dial needles are bent from the heat.

Because the plastic face of the instruments is angled back when it reaches towards the 100km mark the needle touches the plastic and cant go any further.

I used a bent paperclip and a stick and put the paper clip though the tripmeter hole and used it to push the needle back. Its best to do this in summer when the interior gets more hotter and it will slightly bend the spedo needle back.

Toyota has a needle kit to replace them

Good luck,
Eitan.
