Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a PIXMA MX700 all in one and the factory ink tank (number 8 Magenta) that came with the printer is not recognized by the printer; causing an alarm situation that will not clear even when the tank is removed and replaced and it lights up, but when the cover lowers the same alarm U150 occurs. This has occurred several times with this tank since purchasing this printer but now it is alarming all the time and I can't print anything. The air hole isn't covered, and there is ink in the tank. The other tanks are not experiencing any problems. My Canon Quick Start Guide indicated to send you an email regarding this problem. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Liz McGwin

I did not have this problem until after I moved, even though I was extremely careful and moved my MX700 in its original box in my car. The problem seems to be related to the small black tray that the ink tanks sit in. The tray has all the electrical contacts on the back and if it gets loose, it may not make good contact with the ink tank carrier.

Try reseating the black tray where the ink tanks sit. After removing all ink tanks, lift up the gray lever to the left of the tanks. This releases the black tray that the tanks sit in. Remove the tray (not the whole ink carrier, just the smaller black piece inside the carrier towards the back), check to make sure the contacts on the back are clean, then reseat the tray, pressing it firmly, but not forcefully, into place. Push the gray lever back down to lock the tray in place and reinstall the ink tanks.

Ink tank not recognized

New printers throw all sorts of obstacles your way with the ink so that you buy only their ink and enrich their manufacturer's coffers. If you google it, you will find ways of getting around this nonsense and getting your cartridge to work.

How to refill pixma mx700 magenta ink tank without

The colors are individual. That machine takes the Canon CLI-8. I would suggest reading your manual on what the procedure is for changing the ink cartridges out, it typically varies slightly by machine. There should be an option somewhere one of the menus to change the ink cartridges. When you buy a replacement be sure you buy from someone who isn't trying to scam you. I would recommend Cartridge World, of course, or OEM. Do not use cheap online cartridges, you will only have headache later.

Canon Pixma MX700:one print cartridge not working

The cartridge is only a tank that holds ink. The printhead is the device that you put it into and probably has a blockage in the magenta head. Open the machine so the carriage moves to the center. remove all the cartridges.
TCT How to remove and clean Canon Printhead see the link below. The MX700 may have the locking mechanism at the front of the carriage, so you should move it slightly right and then pull the colour bar forward to release the printhead. carefully remove the printhead. Sit it in a shallow dish/tray of hot water for a few minutes and dry with a paper towel. Put it back in the printer reset the locking bar and cartridges. Try a nozzle check through the tools menu. Yoyu may need to repeat the process if the magenta printhead is badly blocked

A canon ink tank is not being recognizd. Previously it was working fine. Then I added a new black cartridge. Now the magenta won't work. All Canon cartridges. Trina

All ink tanks has a memory chip. With this chip the printer recognize the ink tanks and the ink level.Sometimes this chip failed.Just replace the magenta ink tank.

Printer won't recognize the new ink cartridge

Each cartridge has a electronic chip pre-porogrammed at the factory.
If it is a reputable store they will exchange for the right color as they can return the PM to Canon as defective,

Installed #8 M(magenta ink cartridge) New ink tank.

The problem can be one of the following:

  1. You have a faulty cartridge chip (return to purchaser and request a replacement)

  2. The chip is soiled (ink or similar is causing the connection to fail) so try cleaning the chip

  3. The chip is not properly mounted on the cartridge (maybe skewed slightly or similar). If so try straightening out carefully and then re-inserting.

Canon have been known to send out cartridges with bad chips so you should contact them if you bought a proper one and they'll sort you out.

Alarm light is lit -

Ok my printer is giving me the U140 message saying that ink tank cannot be recognized. The new ink tank is Cannon (not a off brand or refill). i think it is a problem with the chip reader port inside the printer not the ink tank chip. I feel this way because if you switch around the yellow and black 8 tanks, the printer accepts them without error.. soo if it was the ink cartridge i could be able to swap the black with the magenta and it should read it.

I keep getting a U150 ink tank cannot be recognized message. I check the ink tank, it is full. It lghts when I put it in, but when I put the cover down, the light goes out and is not recoginzed.

YES- the solution is I had been sold a cartridge for the printer that was same series 8 it needs but it was PM Magenta not a stand M for magenta so I found out form Canon - this is not a photo printer and it cannot use photo printer ink attached Canon's reply to confirm. Went back 3rd time got the M in the 8 series and all is good alarm light out and no error saying it cannot recognize the ink cartridge. YEAH!!!

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the PIXMA MP530 only uses the regular ink tanks and not the photo
ones. This is the reason that it did not work correctly. Glad to hear
that everything is working now. If we can be of further assistance with
your PIXMA MP530, please let us know.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

The remaining ink level cannot be correctly detected. Replace the ink tank and close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover). Printing with an ink tank that was once empty may damage the machine. If you want to continue printing in this condition, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. Press and hold the Stop/Reset button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it. * With this operation, releasing the function for detecting the remaining ink level is memorized. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any machine malfunction or damage caused by refilled ink tanks. See “Replacing an Ink Tank” on page 46.
