Should be a button or key combo Fn + another key--look for a pic of an antenna on the keys or a switch on the unit

I have a linksys wireless g router that worked fine until yesterday. Now it won't connect to the internet. I have a desktop wired to the router and a laptop used wireless.

Check if you can connect to the internet when hooked directly to the modem. If your connection works fine through the modem, then your router needs to be reconfigured.

Make sure your wireless feature is turned on on the computer. There may be a switch on the edge of the computer somewhere, you don't say what kind of computer it is.

Find the wireless connection wizard on your computer and run it. Find it in your network folder in the control panel.

If this is too much, post a comment to this question and we will back up and start over.

BTW, if your laptop has a ethernet outlet (looks like a big phone jack), you can wire your laptop to your router.

I want to help you with this problem

thanks

Internet Connection Problem on One Computer

By any chance, are you trying to use something other than Windows to manage the wireless adapter? If you are, remove it.

Now, Click on Start, right click on Network highlight properties, and click on manage network connections on the Tasks menu.
Your two options will be the icons for your LAN and Wireless Network. Is it enabled and without red or yellow marks? It could be disable, it could be not connected and you can't view wireless networks because the switch is off, or it may just nut see your unsecure network (unlikely).

If the above is clear, right click on the wireless and highlight Properties and left click so it brings up the Networking tab. Highlight IPv4 and click on Properties. Make sure the Obtain dots are ticked. That should work, since you are running unsecured.
If it already is, check the red X or if it isn't click OK and close down the box.

Now, back to where your Wireless card is showing, right click it and you have Disable, Connect/Disconnect, Status, Diagnose etc.

If you're still Disconnected but not Disabled, click on Connect/Disconnect. Does it show your wireless network?

By this time, it should. If it doesn't post back. The other possibility is that you take your computer to a wireless internet cafe, McDonalds, Panera Bread, or motel with WiFi and test it there.

I have Time Warner Cable for internet and Vontage cable for my phone thru my internet. I'm trying to connect a Linksys router for my wireless laptop. I also have a Netgear switch connected to Time Warner...

If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:

Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.

Hope this helps

Linksys Wireless B Router Compatible with Windows Vista?

I would advise you to purchase a Linksys G router, Model # WRT54G2. Works well with Vista and your other laptops will work also.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know.
If this solves your issue, please be kind to rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Wireless router

The problem is the Linksys wireless router is not properly configured. Try downloading the automatic configuration file which can be accessed from the Linksys site for your specific model wireless router.

Hope this helps you.

Laptop could not detect linksys on second day

Jatman,

Couple of things you can try here:

1) Connect your laptop (or another computer if possible) to the router using a network cable. You should then be able to see your configuration info. Make sure that the computer you are using to connect (wired) to the router is set up to use DHCP. Once in there, depending on what you find, you might be able to fix it yourself.

2) Factory reset the router and go through the setup options as if it were brand new.

Hope this helps.

Fast Flashing Light - no Internet connection

Well, i also had a wrt54g router.Generally that type of router is only for a networkwith one, two max wireless items. When the led light is flashing very fast, it means it is working very hard. You may need to get a stronger router such as the wrt300n which can handle up to about 10 items. By the way, netgear routers are generally stronger and longer lasting than linksys.
