No it is not true that color wheels for this model aren't sold as stand alone you can find one on E-bay.The color wheel is approx $259.59 US.sorry don't know of a cheap place to install.Hope this helps you and have a nice day.

YOU are describing a color wheel, in this model it may or may not be available as a part; some of these sets it is only sold with the light engine.

See attached photo of a typical color wheel.

In DLP type sets the wheel turns at up to 12,000 rpm and if bearings in the tiny motor fail it sounds like a fan or even a grinding sound.

Changing the color wheel is very simple. You should have no problem with it. here is a video to help you know what to look for. TV's very a little, but still easy.

You can buy one on from the partsstore.com for $456. It will cost anywhere from $775 to $1000 to have it replaced.

I had the light engine on my Toshiba 52HM95 fail. Sent it to a company Tri State Modules for repair. Got it back as good as new for $249.00. Goto tristatemodule.com. I hope this helps.

same issue guys...just wiggle your damn cords and adjust that **** up down back forth in and out..sounds werid but it worked for me
