Dell optiplex gx 260 180w power supply. My hp monitor's best resolution is 1920 by 1200 at 60hz. The gx can only manage 1600 by 1200 at 60hz. Have you a solution to this problem?

  • Anonymous Dec 23, 2010

Thank you for the reply 7Sleven. The gx260 does have the Intel extreme graphics on board. I think I will have to go down the used route as a lot of the modern cards here in the U K need at least 300 watts power supply.
    Many thanks.

Hi Trevarth,

The Optiplex GX 260 was outfitted with either Integrated Intel Extreme graphic or a 4x AGP video card. In either case if you try to change the resolution and 1920 X 1200 is not an option, the video card does not support that high of a resolution. If you want the higher resolution you will have to buy an AGP video card. When selecting a card, look at the specs and make sure that the higher resolution is supported. The good news is that AGP cards are not that expensive. Here are a couple site you can find video cards.

http://www.nextag.com/4x-agp-video-card/compare-html

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=318&name=AGP%20Video%20Cards

You can find very cheap used one here:

but be careful to check the specs before you order.

Hope this helps

Try checking the device manager of your computer if all the drivers are correctly installed.
Here's what you are going to do:
1. Right Click "My COmputer".
2. Click Manage
3. A window will come out. Select Device Manager.

(If you can see a device with a question, that's the problem.)Then you need to download the driver from the support cd from dell that says device manager.

2nd OPtion.

Try checking the setting of your display in the display properties. There are sometimes that the screen is not automaticaly set to the best resolution after reinstallation.

Here's what you are going to do:
1. Right Click on the wall paper.
2. Go to properties.
3. Settings
4. Change the screen resolution.

I hope this helps.

Dell optiplex gx 270 is not giving display

If you are not getting display for your Dell Optiplex GX 270, the issue may be one of three possible causes:

* The VGA cable connection between the Dell PC and the monitor, may not be seated in the VGA port correctly. To resolve this, just make sure the VGA cable is seated completely in the VGA port of the Dell computer and that also the Power cord from the monitor to the power source (i.e wall socket, power strip, surge protector, etc.) is seated securely.

* There may be an issue with the Video card in the Dell PC

* Or there may be an issue with the motherboard for this model of Dell.

To check to determine if the latter is what you are experiencing with this issue, please feel free to review this Dell Support link: Dell Optiplex GX 270 Display issue.

If you have more questions regarding this information, please feel free to reply back to this post.

Monitor compatibility

It will be compatible with the system, just keep on thing in mind, whatever resolution you set your computer at you may have to keep the ratio aspect active so that way the screen looks properly displayed.

Monitor 'black' with blinking power light

It helps if we know what kind of computer you have, and the model. Go to the manufacturer's support site online. (HP.com, or Dell.com, etc) and search product support for your model # and then search for blinking lights or error lights + black screen or search startup problem and see if you can find the page that explains what the light codes for your system indicate.
Your power supply may have failed. See also link to startup troubleshooting here.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Nothing works on my dell optiplex gx 270

First, are you sure the power supply is coming on? Check by placing your hand at the back of the computer where the power cord plugs in, turn on the computer and see if you feel air blowing. It sounds like your power supply died.

If you're not using a quality surge protector, you may have fried the PS. Wal-Mart sells a cheapie one that goes bad quickly. If you spend less that $39.95 on a surge protector, you're basically wasting your money.

If the power supply doesn't come on, replace it, but you'll have to purchase it from Dell because they use proprietary PS - so generic won't work.
