I erased the music files & now my computer dosen't even recognize the divce is plugged in! Is there a way I can reset to factory defaults & start over?

Power up while holding play-erase. BUT...when performing a re-initialization, this will erase all existing patterns, songs, and drum assignments. This will not erase the factory preset patterns or kits.

Please try resetting the phone to default settings and it should work. The default code should be the last 4 digits of your phone number unless you have changed it.

Restoring Phone Memory to Factory Conditions

This returns all settings to their factory default value and erases all user data including pictures, video, music, messages, contacts and downloaded applications stored on the phone.

1. From the home screen tap MENU.
2. Tap Settings & Tools.
3. Scroll th screen up and tap 7.Phone Settings.
4. Tap 5.Security, You're prompted to enter the lock code.The default lock code is the last four digits of your telephone number.
5. Enter the Lock Code and tap DONE. The security menu appears in the display.
6. Tap 5.Restore Phone. A prompt appears in the display asking if you wish to restore default settings and erase all user data including pictures, videos, music,messages, contacts, and downloaded applications stored on the phone.
7. Tap Yes to reset and restore default settings or tap No to return to the Security list.

 The initialisation function erases all backup data in the instrument's flash memory and restores the initial default settings. To clear data backed up to the internal flash memory-panel user setting, registrationmemory-turn the power on by pressing the standby/on switch whileholding the highest white key on the keyboard. The backed up data will be erasedand the default values restored.Initialization does not delete the files transferred from the computer.

The GoGear allows you to make voice or FM radio recordings and saves the recordings to the internal memory. The internal memory is limited and the GoGear may show the message "Memory Full" when trying to save recordings. When you receive this message, plug the device into the computer and delete any extraneous files or files you no longer want to keep on your device. This will free up memory so you can save more recordings or place additional music files on the GoGear.

I recommend you to reset your device If the solution above didn't solve the problem :.

Take a small object like a paper clip and use the edge to stick into the small reset button on the side next to the usb connection .

Or Try [ power + volume up button & hold for 3 seconds ]

Your mp3 player has two types of memory in it. The hard drive (where the music and photos are stored) and the Ram (where the firmware and active files are temporarily hosted).

When you soft reset your GoGear, it flushes the RAM, and restarts the operating system (which is why the contents of the hard drive does not get erased).

You can "hard reset" the device, by formatting the drive and resetting it to factory defaults in the Settings field. This is the closest thing to a "hard reset: that's available with an HD based MP3 player.

Try plugging it into your computer and updating it's firmware if possible. Or, if you know how, reset it to factory defaults and then re-update it.

( Resetting to factory defaults WILL erase all the music and media you have on it, but at least it may work again )

is it posible to format the whole player from the computer or reset the player so that all the files are erased from it so you can add new playlists, like doing a hard reset to factory settings and erasing everything if it is possible to format it from the computer i wouldnt do it if it shows files that the player needs when you plug it in to the computer but i suggest doing a hard reset on it heres the manual link http://www.curtisint.com/web/browser.asp?productID=SMPK1021&catName=&brand=SYLVANIA&manual=SMPK1021 it might tell you in there how to hard reset it or how to fix it

Since you have all music on your computer - I suggest you do a hard reset - wipe it. Go to the manufacturer's website and type in "reset to factory default settings."

Mostly this kind of problem occurs in sansa due to incompatible settings. Try the MSC mode in the setup instead of the normal mode. Then the player will appear as a unique drive. Copy the music files to appropriate folders and eject the drive. The database will then refresh again...Also reset the settings to factory default atleast once.
