The message indicator is the phone alerting you that you have missed calls. Press the CID button (the up arrow) then menu. You are now in the call list. Scroll through it (using up & down arrows) making sure to view all calls with the word NEW next to them. Alternatively, you can press menu while in the call list and then choose delete all this will erase the entire list.

The light also blinks to indicate voice mail. Many phone providers offer this service for free and you should contact them to ask if you have it / how to check it.

To turn off the red light on the phone, delete the maibox and set it up again. If the light still does not go away, call the extension and leave a VM. Then check the VM and delete it. Wait a few minutes and the light will go off.

Good luck. If you follow all of the above instructions and the red light keeps blinking, that's just the way it is. And that's according to the Philips tech support team. Especially if it's in relation to voice mail icon. The phone appears to think you have a voice mail message even if you've checked it and deleted them all or have no voice mail service whatsoever. So you may be stuck with the blinking red light forever.

I have the same phone with the same annoying problem.  There are no settings to prevent the red light from blinking automatically with each incoming call; however to turn the light off ( the one on the receiver that looks like a scroll ) simply:
press the up arrow button (marked CID), then press the menu button (to the left), then the exit (OFF) button and hang up.
