Toshiba Portege M400 to Vista

Hi

I have a Toshiba Portege M400 (PPM41E-00J01CHK), with 2GB RAM, and an Intel centrino 2.0Ghz dual core processor. Toshiba say that my laptop is Windows Vista capable, and I am interested in upgrading from the XP tablet edition pre-installed on it to Windows Vista Ultimate. The problem I am having is that I do not know where to get official Vista specific drivers for this laptop from. I presume that Toshiba will have some drivers otherwise they wouldn't have put a sticker on my laptop saying 'Windows Vista Capable'. I am in the UK by the way. Please help me out,

Te toshiba europe site is best. They have all the drivers that are avaiable for free - If you are doing a manual install you will need to install them in order. The main thing is to ensure that the Raid driver is instaled else WISTA will not see your drive. There is an issue with the Power managing drivers I am informed. I sucessfully instaled VISTA without the Recovery disk. But I think having the recovery disk partition would e a distinct advantage.

Here's a link for Toshiba's UK site. I looked around a bit and they don't seem to offer much in the way of drivers. You might try driverguide.com I've found it to be a good place to find those hard to find drivers, plus it's easier to use than most manufacturer's sites.

Bios of intel centrino 2 toshiba expose

You can look somewhere in the BIOS page to turn it off.
Toshiba use Esc and F1 key (it depends on the laptop's model), so you need to tap the Esc key or F1 key right after your turn on the laptop.

Downgrade from Vista Basic to XP Pro - Toshiba Portege M800

It depends a lot of the rest of your hardware acctually, audio card, video card, etc.
Download everest, that software will tell you what hardwre you exactly have, and then you can look for each driver.
To save time, first install windows xp, and then install everest to discover which drivers are missing, if you are lucky only 1 or 2

IBM ThinkPad R40 Intel Centrino Upgrade to Intel Core 2 Duo?

According to system specs your system is not compatible with the Core 2 Duo or Centrino Core 2 Duo. To upgrade to those chips you would need to replace the motherboard with one capable of running those chips. If you decided to do that you would almost surely need new RAM as newer boards use newer technology. By the time you did this the upgrade would not be cost effective. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Installing XP on Toshiba Portege R500 Notebook

Guys, if you have the genuine XP CD, please download the Storage Driver from Intel and slipstream it into your version of XP CD. You can also slipstream Service Packs into it as well.
Personally I hate Vista so much. It really brings out the angry devil in me.
By the way, the best and easiest way to slipstream is to install and use nLite http://www.nliteos.com/
Let me know if you want help on installing XP on R500 (I build it a few days ago, but regret to update the BIOS to version 1.06 as I lost the Ctrl key on it).
To get to the BIOS, press and hold the Esc key then Power button.
