You need to start the computer in VGA mode. To do that, turn on the computer. Keep pressing the F8 key every second until a boot menu appears. Select enable VGA mode. The computer will boot to a 640 x 480 resolution. From there you can go to your graphics properties and select a more suitable resolution for your monitor.

You are asking the monitor to display a resolution that is too high for it. Start your computer in safe mode and set the display to a lower resolution and go from there.

Tips on how to adjust computer's resolution and what needs to be considered

Everybody likes a nice looking display but of course it's beyond our control. Check out the things that we need to consider about the resolution adjustment.
  1. The highest resolution of the monitor.
  2. The resolution of the Video card.
Why? The monitor can only handle a limited resolution let's say you have a monitor that has a resolution of 800X600 and you have a video card with a resolution of 1280X1024, you can increase the resolution up to 1280X1024 but since your computer can only handle up to 800X600 the display will look really bad like a double vision. I hope you got the Logic of that. For example, personally, my built computer is not a high-end type of computer and the video card I'm using is a 512MB 2048x1536 but since my monitor can only handle 1024x768, that's what my resolution is. I move it up to a higher resolution, I get a black screen. Now, if you want to increase the resolution of your computer consider both the monitor and the video card. Of course it would be best if both the video card and the monitor has equivalent resolution or much better the monitor to have a higher resolution than the video card for upgrade purposes.

Now, to adjust the computer's resolution:
  1. Right Click on your desktop.
  2. Click on Personalize.
  3. Click on the Settings tab.
  4. There you will find the drop down for the resolution of the video card.
  5. Select the desired resolution. The higher the resolution, the finer it looks.
  6. If it gets blurry, black, or simply goes bad or grainy, it means that the monitor cannot handle that certain resolution, so lower it down.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click OK.
There you go! Should you have any questions feel free to post a reply on this post and I'll be more than happy to help you out with it. Thank you for choosing FixYa! Have a good one. A 4 thumbs up and a comment will be greatly appreciated.

My hp monitor S5500 when boot on it desplay out of frequency range and set resolution lower or see monitor users guide. What can i do to clear this information.

It means that the resolution set in the pc is higher than what your monitor can handle. Boot in Safe Mode, go to Control Panel > Display and in the Settings put a lower resolution - 800x600.

When i put pc on this message comes up on screen saying input not supported and it floats round in a little box.

Hello,
This generally means you have the display resolution set higher then the monitor can support. To fix this press F8 after you turn the computer on. You may have to press it a couple times before the windows loading screen. A black menu will come up. Select safe mode. Your PC will load into safe mode with minimal drivers and settings. Go to the control panel and select display. Change your screen resolution to something lower then the setting is is at right now. If your screen is 19" or smaller try a setting of 1024x768 for starters. If its 20" or higher try 1280x1024 for starters.
Regards, Chris

Sir i an having a intex crt monitir model 151. when i switch on the system booting is fine when windows open ther is no raster only a messege (high frequency) is comming.when i connect cpu into another...

That is because your screen resolution in very high..means out of frequency of the monitor. Restart your pc and press F8 to get safe mode options.once you get safe mode window select Enable VGA mode using up or down arrow keys and press enter. Now you will get your desktop.

Now right click on an empty space in desktop and go to properties and go to settings tab. In screen resolution tab change the resolution to 1024 by 768. Then press Apply and OK. Now you can restart and see your computer works fine.

High pitch sound coming from my old LG 700E monitor

High pitch sound maybe an indicator of a defective monitor or a wrong or incompatible resolution setting of your display properties. The usual is that you have set the resolution higher than that the monitor can hold. Boot the pc in a safe mode. This will give you an option to set the resolution to that resolution accepted by your monitor, the usual is 1024 x 600 or so, avoid higher resolution than this.

Choose Screen ResolutionFor higher legibility of documents on screen, you can adjust the screen resolution of your monitor (for monitors that support more than one screen resolution option). The higher the number of pixels, the more information you can display on your screen and the smaller items appear. Desktop monitor shows lines when i put it on. These line prevent me from seeing the display well. What do i do?

This is normally an indication that this specific monitor cannot synchronize properly: the cause is the requested resolution is too high or the frequency specified is too high. In windows, specify a lower display resolution for your display adapter such as 800 X 600 and gradually change it to a higher resolution until the dsiplay becomes unacceptable to use. Hope it helps! Let me know how you go.

When I set My LG PC monitor to High resolution setting from 16 bit to 32 bit, its not supporting that resolution and start blinking only. I am unable to find , how to reset it to default.

Restart your PC and press F8 before windows bootup and select VGA Mode so that when your windows finish loading windows in a VGA mode you can easily choose the Display setting you like. Remember to keep your Screen refresh rate not so high which can permanently damage your monitor.

Monitor screen picture is stretched out wide, and short verticle

If this is an incorrect display setting on the Operating system right click your desktop, choose properties then click settings under screen resolution bring the slider all the way to the left, choose apply. This will lower your resolution temporarily, if the picture fills the screen appropriately, we now know this is a software issue. The next step is simply to find the resolution you like the best. IF this does not resolve the problem, it is most likely a monitor problem. On your monitor there should be button allowing you to access the "reset to defaults" option. If you're unable to find the menu option let me know what make and model monitor you have. If you are able to reset to defaults and the picture is still bad, it's time for a new monitor.
