Power on but no dispal


check the connection to the motherboard, see or look at the power connection, if the power connection is connect try flipping the power connection around, if you tried that try and look for the positive side plugging in the hot wire to the + side hot wire ti control panel, if you are still having issues go on line see if you can find the layout of the connecting pins on the motherboard there a lot of different configurations for the led lay out and you connect it the wrong way you will short out the led display.

This 16-pin connector includes Power-on, Reset, HDD LED, Power LED, and speaker connection. It allows user to connect the PC case's front panel switch functions. Pin #1 has a black square on the motherboard and the pins are oriented from 1-8, left to right, bottom row and 9-16, left to right, top row. You will notice that there is no #11 pin.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

Motherboard installed in computer case, (Processor to the Top, Ram Memory slots to the Right), the Front Panel header is at the Bottom/Right corner,

Black rectangle of plastic with 17 contact pins. Top row has 9 pins, Bottom row has 8.

Notice that the Bottom row has a White triangle pointing to the first pin.
This triangle points to Number 1 pin.

Top row has 9 pins.
Starting on the LEFT side going across to the Right;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18.

Bottom row has 8 pins.
Starting on the LEFT side going across to the Right;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, NO PIN, and 17.

A) Pins 1 and 2 are for the Green Button. This is also the Standby button.
Let's discuss this for a moment............
Myself I wouldn't connect to it.

B) Pins 3 and 4 are for the HarDDrive activity LED.
(Light Emitting Diode, so to call it an LED light is redundant)
Pin 3 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the Harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

C) Pins 6, 8, 10, and 12 are for an internal speaker. Used so the computer can generate BIOS Beep Codes.
Doesn't indicate which pin is for the Positive ( + ) wire, but with most motherboard speaker setups, Pin 6 would be for the Positive ( + ) wire, and Pin 12 for the Negative ( - ) wire.

D) Pins 5, 7, and 9 are for the Power On LED.
Notice there are 3 pins. This is used for a dual color Power On LED light.
Usually a Green/Yellow.
Pin 9 is for the Positive wire.

Two wire Power On LED? Positive wire goes to Pin 7, or Pin 9. I believe both to be a Positive connection.
Pin 5 I believe to be the Negative connection. ( - )

(I suggest connecting the Negative wire to Pin 5. Then connect the Positive wire to Pin 9. Not very bright? Put it over to Pin 7 )

E) Pins 11 and 13 are for the Power On switch.

F) Pins 14 and 16 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

G) N/C for Pin 17. No Connection.

H) N/C for Pin 18. No Connection.

Hi, im trying to connect motherboard intel D865GVHZ front panel to connection J9H3, i need a diagram for it. Thank you for your help


I may be confused with your problem you posted mar13974.
I thought Jumper J9H3 was for the Front Chassis Fan.
By your post, it leads me to believe you want the pin assignments for the Front Panel header on the mobo.

At any rate let's go to Intel Product Support, and the download page for the motherboard manual, for the Intel D865GVHZ desktop mobo,
(MOtherBOard),

After you click you may not see anything happening for up to 30 seconds. The file is downloading in the background.

Page 33 shows the location of the Front Panel header on the motherboard.

Page 34 details the pin assignments

Page 36 shows the Front Chassis Fan header location (Chassis front fan)
3-pin header, doesn't state the pin assignments.
With a 3-wire fan cable,
A) 1 wire is the Power wire. Generally Red
B) 1 wire is the Ground wire. Generally Black
C) 1 wire is the speed sensor wire. Reads how fast the fan is spinning in Revolutions Per Minute
(RPM) Generally Blue, but it's up to the individual manufacturer.

Download the manual for you're MSI PM8M-V motherboard from MSI; http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=searchresult&keywords=PM8M-V&table=download
You will need to download and install Adobe reader to view the manual. Download Adobe; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
Open manual to page 9. See Front Panel Connectors: JFP1 & JFP2. There is no need to connect JFP2's Power LED jumper, this is completed at JFP1. Each wire jumper coming from the case will have one wire color in common with all connectors except the speaker jumper. That common colored wire will be use as negative.
The speaker wire commonly as red is positive and black is negative.

I need help with connecting my case wires to the motherboard


those wires are for the USB not audio,the meaning of the
writing no the wires are:
vcc=5 volts, -D=data negative, +D= data positive,GND=ground.
look in the manual for usb connection, if the mainboard has the header connection for them connect the wires to it if not just leave them out, secure them out of the way.

Motherboard P4M800CE-8237 Pin connection


Hi ohfs55, case's vary & so do the wire colors. The most common wire color for positive are colored wires. Blue, Green, & red. The most common color for negative is White & or black. I wasn't able to find your manual. If you have the manual for the motherboard there will be a page that will show where the positive & negative wire's connect for each jumper to the motherboard.
Without the manual I can not guide you through each connection. PW = power switch, RW =Reset switch, HD_LED = Hard drive LED ECT.

Connecting Speaker


Dear Big Timmo,

To connect the Speaker Pins u have to check left or right side of u r mother board where u r power wire, reset wire and Hard disk led wire connected to the mother board. it has 12 or 13 male pins. There u will find in writen speaker in the motherboard. I hope now u can connect u r speaker pins..
