Problems with Printing Special Size Forms

We have a Oki Dot Matrix Printer (OKI Turbo 321n) that we are having problems with printing our special size (3 1/2 by 4 1/2) order tickets. The forms are being printed from a Sybase Powerbuilder application and we have set up a special form size.

The problem appears to be that the printer is ignoring the form size and is instead printing a 8 1/2 by 11 size document. It is also generating an extra form feed for each print record. The printer prints the information on the correct spot on the first form (vertically and horizontally, but then form feeds to the top of the fifth form. THat is it prints the first form correctly, but with the wrong length(11 inches) and then does another form feed. Consequently we are wasting 3 forms for every one that we print.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First I would print the menu settings by going into menu mode (Shift+Sel keys) then pressing the print key. Then I would reset the printer to defaults by turning it off and turning it back on while holding the Sel+LF keys. Then go back into menu mode and make sure to match the emulation mode, character set, language set, code page, page length, and all the Parallel I/F settings. Then try your print job again. If you problem still exists then it is most likely that your application of driver on the comptuter is sending the extra lind feeds and that the problem is not with the printer.

You will also most likely have to use the top feeder and set the page length control option in the top feeder section of the menu to actual page size as the printer has no option for 4.5" page length.

On the PC that is giving you the problem;

Make sure that the paper size in the printer setup is correct.
Make sure that the paper size for the report (in access) is correct.

I have a program (access) and some of the reports in it have margins down to .3 and it if the printer is set to us - Letter paper size instead of A4 I have the same problem as you.

Try to change the application which is used to print and test it with another application which is suitable for printing.

The printer cannot be set to a page length when printing from a dos program. The page length is incorrect but changes with every print even though the same file is printed

Prints from DOS programs do not have a "page length" setting of their own, nor do dot matrix printer have a page length of their own.

Page feed is achieved by sending a special control code (^L), and the meaning of ^L can be set through specific escape codes that the DOS program has to know.

My guess is that you need to tell the DOS program the page size in lines or inches, and maybe instruct it to send a page feed command after each page.

You can try directly programming the printer, but if the DOS program is sending out the wrong codes, this is not going to help. Anyway, here goes. Good luck!

Oki 320ml dot matrix printer pauses while printing and the menu light start to flicker. It resumes printing after a while. Why?

The printhead has some thermisters in and it is either actually overheating or a faulty thermister thinks it is overheating. Either way, a new printhead is required.

I have limited option for my TVSE HD-745 Dot

Paper size and pagelength are normal set by the incoming print datastream.

You can usually set this up from within the application you are using to generate the print datastream.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

PRINTING INDIVIDUAL SHEETS, MACHINE WILL **** PAPER THROUGH ONCE AND THEN BEGIN PRINTING THE SECOND TIME IT IS INSERTED

This sounds like a printer driver problem. Reinstall the driver from the Printer disc (or get one off the web). Failing that it may be because the paper size set in the PC wordprocessor doesn't match what is set in the printer software.

Pharmacy labels are printing so big they are taking up two labels.

Try deleting the Oki from the Printers and Faxes folder and rebooting.
Windows may have screwed up the driver.

If that doesn't work, use Add New Hardware but don't let it choose the driver, use the manual option and pick your Ok model from the list.

It may have stupidly installed the 320 instead of the 320T driver; they may be different.
