Question about JVC Cameras

6 Answers

I have a JVC camcorder gr-d850 and a mac. I'd like to take advantage of the dv in/out. Do I need anything other than a firewire cable? Do I need any specific drivers? When I hook up the camera to the mac using the firewire cable the mac doesn't see anything. Thanks

I have a JVC camcorder gr-d850 and a pc (windowsXP). I'd like to take advantage of the dv in/out. When I connect a firewire cable to the camera, it doesn't see the camera. Do I need special drivers or program? If yes where do I get them? I can't find them on the JVC website.
    Thanks

Youd dont need any software. All you need is a firewire cable. Have a look at this video that explains how to upload video from your camcorder to mac.

Do I understand you are on a MAC? What OS version of the MAC are you using?

You can open up Boot Camp and then hook up your camera via Firewire which is the only way to connect a DV Camcorder to a MAC anymore. From inside Boot Camp you may be able to install the software that came with your camcorder or it should then be recognized as a dirve, which you can open and copy the contents of your video over to the hard drive. From inside this program you should be able to convert the file to a MP4 at least, which a MAC can access as well as good old avi.

If this camera can be connected via USB try it that way so we can check if only the firewire connection is the problem..

Hope that helps.....

Go into Device Manager and see if you have an IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller, and if you do see if it is working properly by looking at the Properties. Did you get an installation CD with your camcorder? Can you try your camcorder on someone else's computer to see if it will pick it up.

    Hope that fix it..........

    Try this one also :

    1. Make sure that you have your cards seated and screwed in tightly.
    2. Load all appropriate drivers, go to the windows or manufactureers web-sites and make sure you are current.
    3. Make sure that the camera is off. Attach the firewire to the camera.
    4. Attach the firewire to the PC.
    5. Do not start your editing program yet.
    6. Turn on your camera and wait for the OS to recognize and load the appropriate device. DV IN on your camcorder doesn't mean you have a successful conection to the PC. It just means that the camcorder sees the cable is plugged into the camera.
    7. If the Digital device dialog window pops up, click on the appropriate program link. I always click take no action and then load the program.
    8. If you do not get the device loaded, go to start/my computer/control panel/system and click on hardware device manager. Click on any of the listings, then click on the scan for new hardware icon of menu pull down.
    9. If the camera is not added, or has a problem, try to reload the drivers.
    10. You can always try adding the device under the scanners and camera section of the control panel menu.

When connecting the camcorder to a PC useing DV cable, make sure to follow the procedure below. Connecting the cable incorrectly may cause malfunctions on the camcorder and /or the pc.

    - connect the dv cable first to the pc and then to the camcord

    - connect the dv cable plugs correctly according to the shape of the dv connector

see page 42 in the manual, let me know if you need further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Ekse

usb is only used for still images and reading the memory card, so you will have to use the dv cable for transferring anything else.

  • Ekse Jul 08, 2008

you can also try reinstalling the ieee1394 controller

open up device manager by right click my computer, select manage.

Select device manager from the left side, then find the ieee controller right click and select uninstall.

Ones the device is uninstalled you can either reboot the pc or click on the

    scan button to reinstall it.

if reinstalling doesn't fix it try uninstalling and then restarting it will get reinstalled after the reboot.

    see if that does it.

Hi, I have a JVC GR DVX 707EK Camcorder and wanted to know whether I can buy anything thyat would enable me to downlaod the videos done directly onto my PC or MAC. Any assistance would be appreciated

This type of camera usually downloads better with a Firewire (DV) connection. Some mini-DV cameras only use the USB connection (if they have one) for stills and can only download video by Firewire. This is because you have to play the tape into the computer, not just copy a file. The way it works on my computer, the camera is controlled by the computer software.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card. As you have a MAC, you may already have a port.

Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. My camera came with the correct lead.

JVC have a FAQ page that might help, at THIS LINK. Question 8 is the one you want.

USB connection is only for the still photos on the SD card. If there is no SD card in the slot, it will not load.

Video has to be transferred via the firewire cable.
