Question about Acer Aspire 3610 Notebook

Acer 3614 IDE Problem

Hi

I have an Acer Aspire 3614WLMi notebook. It has a problem that it loses the IDE setup and either crashes if it's in Windows or gets an operating system not found message if it is re-booted. If you go into system setup it sometimes shows no ide devices, sometimes shows just the HDD and sometimes shows the correct config of HDD and DVD-RW. I have tried replacing the HDD and re-installing XP but am still getting the same error.

Regards

Sam

If the hard drive works in another computer then its more than likely a mother board issue.

Pretty simple. You'll just need to determine whether the system uses SATA or IDE for the hard drive interface. Many machines manufactured in the past couple of years use SATA, but any 2.5" drive will be compatible providing you have the correct interface. ATA drives for laptops are generally called PATA and if it's such an interface any ATA-6 drive will be compatible.

You might need a SATA driver for the Vista installation, so bear that in mind. You'd specify additional drivers during the setup process.

Good luck.
