My KM FS 6950 DN mono laser printer is producing a fine gray background on both sides of each printed page. If I set the toner density from number 3 to number 5 , the gray background disappears on the front side, but remains on the back of the page. The printer has done approx 45,000 prints in 18 months and I always use genuine KM toner

My KM FS 6950 DN mono laser printer is producing a fine gray background on both sides of each printed page.
If I set the toner density from number 3 to number 5, the gray background disappears from the front side, but remains on the back of the page. I have removed and cleaned the charge roller with water and dried it with lint free cloth. There is no toner spillage and the shield glass is clean. The printer has done about 45,000 prints in 18 months and I always use genuine KM toner.

I'm not familiar with this particular printer but I have something to say anyway. Some of this info you may find useful.

Your brand is a Kyocera Mita and your model I can't find on the manufacturers current product list or the legacy list on USA models. Your printer is a United Kingdom model.
You can check out support for your printer here

  1. In the control panel of your printer or on your computer for this printer there could be a section in there that tells the printer to print with this light gray background. In otherwards it might be configured to print like that. It might be as simply as unchecking a box or making some other adjustments in the control panel.
  2. Missing or light portions of the output are most often due to low toner.
  3. Indistint images(or those that appear as though the camera was of of focus) the proper charges aren't being applied to the drum or paper, the image isn't properly formed and transferred from the drum to the paper. Cleaning the corona wire might fix this problem. Also check that the HVPS is outputting the required high voltages.
  4. Using a deeply texured paper can result in improperly fused toner.
  5. You might need to replace your rollers because they are dirty
  6. If your have an older laser printer, you may encounter repeting white areas. This is the result of of a dirty corona wire. Cleaning the corona wire may solve the problem.
  7. Stray marks are usually the results of dirt, loose toner, or a damaged drum. Clean out the printer with a laser-printer vacuum because they are designed so that they don't produce static.
  8. A formatter board in the printer interprets the computer's output into commads that the printer can use to create your output. Sometimes these boards go bad.
  9. Aproblem that can be desribed as "ghost images" is the result of the previous image not being totally removed from the drum. You might see the entire image ghosted, or just some areas that show up as stary marks on the current page. Check that the cleaning blade and the erase lamp are working properly.

First this to try would be to clean inside the printer with a clean paintbrush and some compressed air. Then try again with a new toner cartridge. If that doesn't work then it's either an electrical issue or a transfer roller problem. Purchasing and instralling a maintenance kit may solve your issue, the kit for you printer is MK-440.

You should warm-up your Machine with a Heater and then retry. If this fails, you should contact Service Center.

Also, you may change the Paper Roll before that.

Your Print density could be set too high.
Try to Decrease the amount of Density through the device configuration utility.

You Must have teh HP Toolbox installed to change printer settings

Printer leaves look of burn marks as granular shadow over page

If the paper really is being burnt then there is a fault with the fuser roller temperature control. This would also make a smell. If this gray sheen is made of toner then this may be the laser unit not putting out enough power. The optics could be dirty. One thing to try before attempting repair- Reduce the print density to minimum in the printer advanced settings. This increases the Laser power. Good luck

The printer is printing a yellow background on all pages. How do I get it to stop printing yellow?

It may be that you have extra yellow toner floating around in your printer so take all the toners out and hoover out your printer. Then print out about 10 - 20 blank pages to remove any left over toner. This should solve the problem, if not then its more than likely a faulty toner.

A new laser could help, but you should make sure the toner save is turned off, it makes toner last longer by making light prints. Toner save is set in printer properties in the control panel

Paper turns gray

it is written in the Manual:

If the amount of background toner shading becomes unacceptable, the procedures described below may help to clear the condition:

* Increase the density setting. This will decrease the amount of background shading.
* Change the paper to a lighter basis weight.
* Check the printer's environment' very dry (ow humidity) conditions can increase the amount of background shading.
*Replace the toner cartridge.
*Replace the transfer roller

i hope it can help.

Kyocera 3900 dn, is there a way to speed it up?

1.install the latest print driver; see if the rip/spool time is long or the printing time is long. The rip time depends by your computer (!) and the print driver (disable the collate option when printing multiple copies of 1 page = on the printer you should see 1/5 spit a page then 2/5 and spit another page for 5 copies of same page. If you see processing the spit the page then processing and spit the page means your computer is sending 5 times the same page instead of sending once and ask for 5 copies !!! )
2.use network connection instead the USB.
3.expand the printer memory
4.switch the printer from PCL to KPDL or Auto when printing pdf files.

Shadowing/graying with printing

Hi fa1103:
Gray background
1. Do not use media that has already been run through the printer.
2. Try using a different type of media.
3. Print a few more pages to see if the problem corrects itself.
4. Turn over the stack of media in the tray. Also, try rotating the stack 180°.
5. Open the Configure Device menu at the printer control panel. On the Print Quality
submenu, increase the TONER DENSITY setting. See the user guide.
6. Make sure that the environmental specifications for the printer are being met.
try these steps to see if they work for you.

Print quality problem

Hi there sound to me like the toner cartridge is either faulty or leaking. Is it or has it been refilled if so remove cartridge vacuum out the insides of loose toner install brand new toner cartridge then test again. It cannot be the fuser unit as it will have quality problems all the time so try above and I hope it works for you.

Thanks J

Kyocera FS-1135 will not send fax out. Has worked great for 4-5 years and just stopped working. It receives fax just fine. Everything else works fine. We've had it 4-5 years and it was working and now it will not. Do not know of any settings that were changed. Today printed a FAX TX Report and starting 4-19 til now there were 24 attempted fax and only one went through. All phone/fax numbers were lines that we send regularly too. We called one with a phone just to make sure the call was getting through and the fax machine was on. It was and it made the fax tones. It receives fax just fine. Another (our "back-up" free standing fax machine) used by other staff, works fine. Both of the fax machines are on the same phone line (along with the credit card machines) and everything is working except the sending out fax from our FS-1135 work. I hooked a phone to the copier and was able to manually dial out and could hear the fax machine on the other end. I tried to turn the sound on on my copier/Fax but I don't know if I did it right. I could get no sound out of it. When I attempt to send a fax, here's what happens. I put the Page that I am going to fax in the auto feed tray. I push the Fax button and it lights up. Then I type in the number of the other office's fax machine. Then I hit the Green button (START) and it feeds the page into the copier and says it's scanning - then the Memory light blinks on and off 2 times - and then everything stops. The display screen say: Enter destination or Ready for Fax - and it sits there about 5 minutes and it prints out an "Error Occurred" and say "BUSY"
