Scanner not working ... is there a way to fix ? is it cost effective to repair older machine?

scanners/ printers costs are as low as $35.00 for a new one and if it is a wifi unit may be $100.00 to replace new
with labor costs and parts ( if you can get them) I would consider junking it and get an updated new one

Cost of upper scanning bed on HP M1522nf printer .. Does anyone know ? Out of warranty trying to decide if I should fix or just get a new one.

Not required to replace entire scan bed assembly, if you are facing any problem related to scan or copy.. There is a part called "optical scanner"(CCD) need to replace to resolve the issue, costing INR 3,500( in India).. You can try for it.. See the part:

SCANNER ERROR ON INITIALIZATION

Simple answer is that the Laser Assy (ie. Scanner) has gone bad. It is a sealed pack inside the printer that housed the laser and octagonal scan mirror (it spins at very high speed) and if there is any issue with the motor or the laser sensing device it will throw that code. Depending on your cost/value proposition of the printer will determine wether or not you want to spring for the replacement of a new scanner. Labor and Scanner cost will probably run $300-400 would be my guess. If you find a repair facility that will replace the scanner with a refurbished scanner you can shave about 40% off the price of that. Your labor cost should be 75-100 per hour and is about an 1.5 hours to do the work. Good Luck

hello, i'm sorry to tell you, the problem is laser scanner, on this machine i would say time to replace. the price on scanner is too costly, as well as to get to scanner unit, will require alot of desk space and alot of time, the whole machine would litterly need to be pulled apart. sorry, i never had a customer say yes on this repair.

Scanner bulb doesn't turn on during a scan

You can try to get and replace the scanner light. If it was the light, the new one will work. If it was some other electonic component that shut off the light, then the light won't work. Depends on the cost of a new light compared to getting the unit serviced by a tech. Or the cost of a new Multifunction unit. Do some research before you make the decision.

Try to print--scanner failure appears

I think your printer has been, for some time now, trying to tell you something and the scanner failure message
is the last in a series of messages.

First, the copier and the printer and the scanner worked fine, "for years",
Then, the copier stopped accepting scans, while printing from data sent by your computer.
Then, you received a scanner failure message again, and will not accept data from your computer, and
"won't print at all"

Your printer/scanner/copier/fax has needed service for some time after years of continuous service.

Evaluate now, based on its initial cost and the lesser cost of All In Ones whether you have already
obtained sufficient service to amortize the cost over time, and you may conclude that service is eitherr
cost effective or ineffective at this time.

Scanner not working

Yes, its true. It will cost more to repair the printer than have it replaced. But If you need a servicer, reply with your zip code ill see if i can search one for you. For the parts of the printer, go to compass-micro.net.

Scanner motor doesn't typically go out in these machines. If you are getting a scanner failure message, its either the scanner assembly or the main board.

Scanner failure messege.

I put new bulbs my printer for the same error message, 2 bulbs with freight cost me $49.00. Now instead of error message after 10 or so minutes, it almost immediate. The tech folks in California says 95% of the time the bulbs fix this issue, but when it does not, it is the "board" at a cost of about $90.00. HP 7110 must have this issue and junk is my opinion at this time. Let me know how you come out.
