Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have an ACER Aspire 5600 laptop. The keyboard or mouse will not respond or function (apart from F2 and Alt/F10 which work intermittently). A remote mouse works but a remote keyboard does not. I have restored the laptop to its factory settings but still no keyboard or mouse. The only time that the keyboard worked was when I was tying in the details to restore the factory settings.

my acer aspire 5600 series notebook keyboard, touchpad, and notebook battery failed 2 nights ago (july 3, 2008). i was running Vista Enterprise successfully and all devices were functioning normally. keyboard works fine during cmos/bios setup and when boot from an ubuntu boot disk. problem is all of my software is ms. only keyboard that works now is the on-screen keyboard. based on posted solutions, tried changing system date, reset to factory settings, re-install win xp and vista, and boot alternate win versions; to no avail. i guess you get what you pay for!

Your acer bettery is the problem. I had the same problem just go to this website www.acerbatteryrecall.com/AcerWeb and fill out the form and they will send you a battery for free. In the mean time if you want to use your acer laptop just take out the battery and use only with the wall cord, you wont have any problems......you can thank me by sending me a myspace message at myspace.com/j_hambino

HOW to tget to bios acer aspire AST180-ED400A

Immediately after pressing the power up button, start repeatedly pressing F2 while the Acer logo is displaying. The Bios setup screen should appear. If you press F2 too soon, the keyboard may not have initialized yet. If you press it too late, Windows will proceed to launch. Press it once, wait a second, press, it again, wait another second, and repeat this while the Acer logo is displaying until you see the bios setup screen.

This is standard approach with most Acers. That said, some laptops may defer to either Ff being the key to press or CTRL+ALT+EXC. Such would be entered as the above mentioned F2. Your Aspire appears to be a desktop and I suspect F2 will suffice.

Hi My acer aspire Z5610 will not boot, it just stays at the Acer screen and doesn't go any further. The problem appears to be after a windows update. Currently running w7. Any suggestions gratefully...

try in safemode using f8, or else go to repair your computer in same screen and try system restore to reset computer to an earlier time. still not working then recovery is only option. use the alt+f10 keys on the system power up.

Have an acer aspire 5515 laptop. It will not boot. Tried doing alt-f10 to restore but it does nothing. Did not come with restore disks.

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
or
During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things
working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer
hope this helps

I need recovery cd download for acer aspire m1640

There aren't any restore disks because most Acer's have them built-into the hard drive.

Just press SHIFT + F10 when you start the computer.

That should put you into the Acer eRecovery Menu.

If that key combo doesn't work try:

F10
Alt + F10
Fn +F10
ctrl + F10

Let me know which one works, I always seem to forget.

Best of luck!

Press Alt and tap F10 only when the acer screen appears.

If this does not work and open the recovery program then is it possible that you formated over the driver and partition when you loaded XP?

If not the make sure that D2D recovery is enabled in the bios settings. You can check this by pressing F2 on boot and going into bios.

At the beginning of the boot, try pressing Alt-F10 (it might be another key, like F10 or F2 or DEL). It will go into the recovery partition.

I have an acer aspire L350 i want to restore it from the recovery partition but i dont know what to press to get to it please help

When you first turned on your laptop from new, you should have been prompted to create back up disks of your system.

If you did not do this, then you can try the following.

Most models of Acer Aspire have recovery system capabilities.
When booting up press F2 to enter the bios. Make sure that D2D recovery system is enabled then exit and save the changes. Press Alt+F10 to enter recovery. If this does not work for you then contact Acer for replacement recovery disks.

I hope this helps

Hi Sue
Kids are great aren't they? The magic combo you are looking for is alt and f10 (thats the f10 key - not f, 1 and 0). You need to press down the alt key and f10 simultaneously while the ACER screen is up.

The manual for your laptop can be found at this link. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2505575/Acer-Aspire-Laptop-manual

The instructions for the recovery are located on page 25. There is also a notice there that disk to disk recovery must be enabled in the bios for it work. The instructions are there to verify if this is so. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
