If you can print an engine test page (page of lines) and there is no display or any LED status lights, verify that your control panel is properly plugged into the formatter board and the formatter board is properly connected to the engine controller and other printer cabling. If that all checks out and you know your control panel is not the problem, then you'll need to replace your formatter PCB.

Hp m4345 mfp indicating the light for initializing, through out. It can't stop to be ready. What could be a problem? Please help Ray.

If the control panel is just cycling through the startup screen without ever coming to ready, you could have several possible problems. Unplug the printer, and then remove the formatter, which is box on the side of the printer that the network and phone cables plug into. Turn on the power and attempt to print an engine test. This is done by using a blunt object to press the engine test button. Look for narrow oval shaped slot on the back of the printer near the top. Press in and hold the button and it should spit out a page with lines on it. If it does then the base printer is ok(if not bad dc controller or power supply). From there, open the formatter and reseat any memory or cards in the formatter, Then power off the printer and reattach the formatter and try to start it again. If you still have the issue then it is time to try a cold reset. Turn the printer off, turn it on and watch the upper left of display. When the memory count starts, press and hold the six button until the three leds on the left side of control panel come on. the press the "9" until the display reads "cold reset". The press the "6" button again and unit will restart. If it comes to ready good, if not then it is very possible that the harddrive has failed.

Hp laserjet 9500 control panel failure after removing rhe formatter.

Control panel will not light with the formatter removed, it is controlled by the formatter. The only thing you can do with the formatter removed is an engine test.

Menu screen blank and attention light is on -...

If you have any additional memory installed in the printer, remove it and then try to start the printer. Your issue sounds like a bad formatter but you will want to try performing a cold reset before you jump to that conclusion. To cold reset, turn the printer off, turn the printer on and/if the memory count starts, press and hold the checkmark button until all lights turn on. Release the check mark and then use the up and down arrow keys until the display reads "cold reset" then press the check mark again. If the memory count does not start at all them it is very possible that the formatter or the engine control board is dead. Remove the formatter cover and near the front of the printer on that side you should see a little hole, this is the engine test button. If the printer will print an engine test then it is a bad formatter for sure. You may need to remove the formatter (the main board on the right side of the printer) in order to perform an engine test.

The display does not work anymore.

Hi, Printer Has Blank Display Issue Description: Some customers may report that the control panel display is not working on their LJ2400 Series printer. Most of the units are right out of the box. This goal of this document is to help you troubleshoot the problem and provide a solution for the customer. Symptoms Customers will see: Printer powers on, motor rotation and fan sounds can be heard during boot cycle, but the control panel display is blank and there is no backlight . Printer prints engine test page. Printer powers on, motor rotation and fan sounds can be heard during boot cycle, but there is backlight . Printer prints engine test page. Troubleshooting requested by engineers: BACKLIGHT PRESENT, BUT NO TEXT DISPLAYS Disconnect all connections to printer except for power cord. Plug power cord directly into wall outlet and power cycle. Can motor rotation sounds be heard? Reseat memory DIMM in slot. Check cable connections on formatter ? particularly control panel power (J4), ECU-Formatter flat ribbon cable (J5), and power from the ECU (J6). NO BACKLIGHT Verify that the engine is powering up when power cycled by listening for motor rotation sounds. Ask the customer to print an engine test page. (See photo below for access to engine test page button.) If engine does NOT print test page, problem is with the engine, not formatter or control panel. (Service required.) Check cable connections on formatter ? particularly control panel power (J4), ECU-Formatter flat ribbon cable (J5), and power from the ECU (J6). Verify boot select jumper on the formatter PCB is installed on the bottom two (correct) pins (see photo below) to ensure the unit ?boots? from the firmware chip on-board the formatter. NOTE: The BOOT SELECT position (top two pins) is only used to boot from a FW-loaded compact flash card. If incorrect, reseat boot select jumper onto the bottom two (correct) pins. Attempt to print a configuration page ? ?back? button (x3, to clear any undisplayed messages) -- check button -- down arrow -- check button -- down arrow -- check button. If configuration page prints, verify contents and, assuming you find nothing wrong with configuration, you may assume that the problem lies with the display portion of the control panel. Firmware Error 49 by Stephen (edited 3/20/07 12:29 PM) reply + / -
It could be a bad job.

First disconnect it from your network and any PC it might be attached to.

Power cycle it, then if it goes to ready status try the built in test pages, do they work?

If the printer will go to ready status and you have a parallel cable with the proper connector, then you can try upgrading the firmware from a PC, you can also try to upgrade the firmware over the network.

Cold Reset HP Laser Jet 4250n by Stephen (3/20/07 1:03 PM) reply + / -
Try a cold reset, it will reset the JetDirect settings, but it's the next step.

Cold Reset:

Power off printer, wait about 5 seconds, then power it on, when asterisks start appearing on the display press and hold the check mark until all 3 lights come on solid, then use arrow keys to find cold reset and push check mark to perform the reset.

Re: HP Laser Jet 4250n by Stephen (edited 3/20/07 2:27 PM) reply + / -
Then you probably need to replace the formatter.

Do you have another printer you can swap parts with?

There is a slim chance the memory DIMM is bad, you can try it with the DIMM removed, if there is more than one DIMM you can try installing just one and then the other.
-----------------------------

A 49 error indicates that the formatter could not understand or execute an instruction within a file or cannot interface with an accessory, DIMM, or EIO device. Troubleshooting 49 errors is done through process of elimination. First determine if the printer functions in a stand-alone mode then test communications to the printer.

These errors can be divided up into two categories; the associated troubleshooting depends on the circumstance the 49 errors are occurring.

A 49 error is always followed by Hexadecimal numbers, for instance, 49.00FF. The Hex code is a memory address. Most Hex codes are not documented.

I do not see anywhere where the printer has been disconected from everything. If you have not done so already disconnect every cable from the printer with the exception of the power cable and turn the printer back on and see if you get the error and if not report back here for further instructions.

You might also try disabling the embedded JetDirect.

To disable the embedded LAN port

Turn the printer power off.

Power on the printer and watch for the memory count to begin.

Hold down the SELECT (Checkmark) button, when you see the memory count begin.

Continue holding down the SELECT (Checkmark) button until all three printer control-panel lights flash once and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds.

After the message SELECT LANGUAGE appears on the display, press the UP ARROW button or the DOWN ARROW button until EMBEDDED LAN DISABLED appears on the display

Press the SELECT (Checkmark) button. The printer then continues its power-on sequence with the embedded LAN disabled.

If this works the JetDirect built into the formatter is bad, you can either replace the formatter, or buy an JetDirect to install in an EIO slot.

Re: HP Laser Jet 4250n by Trev Pearson (3/20/07 10:08 PM) reply + / -
The only other thing to try, before spending money, is to get the network administrator to clear the print queue for that particular printer and then turn it on.

The theory being that a 'corrupt' print job is still in the system and as soon as the printer is turned on, that 'corruption' floods the network card with garbage which promptly goes 49.

If the printer comes 'ready', great. Then do a firmware upgrade. If not, then you will have to spend money on a new formatter.

Trev

No display and no light indicators when powered on

If the printer control panel is blank when you turn on the printer, check the following items.
1. Make sure that the printer is plugged into an active electrical outlet that delivers the correct
voltage.
2. Make sure that the on/off switch is in the on position.
3. Make sure that the fan runs briefly, which indicates that the power supply is operational.
4. Make sure that the control panel display wire-harness is connected.
The control-panel wire-harness connector can easily be disconnected when you install the top
cover. If the control panel does not work after the top cover is installed, verify that the wire-harness
connector is fully seated into its DC controller PCA connector.
5. Make sure that the firmware DIMM and the formatter are seated and operating properly.
6. Remove any HP Jetdirect or other EIO cards, and then try to turn the printer on again.
If the printer control-panel display is blank, but the main cooling fan runs briefly after the printer
power is turned on, try printing an engine test page to determine whether the problem is with the
control-panel display, formatter, or other printer components.
Engine test page
To verify that the printer engine (all printer components except the formatter, formatter DIMMs,
EIO products, and the stacker or stapler/stacker) is functioning, print an engine test page. Use a
small, non-metallic, pointed object to depress the test-page switch, which is located on the right
side of the printer
The test page should have a series of vertical lines. The test page will print from the last tray you
printed from. However, if the printer has been turned off and then back on since the most recent
print job, the page will print from tray 2. The printer will continuously print test pages as long as
the test-page switch is depressed. The printer will not print a test page if it is in PowerSave
mode.
A damaged formatter might interfere with the engine test. If the engine test page does not print,
try removing the formatter and performing the engine test again. If the engine test is then
successful, the problem is almost certainly with the control panel, or the cable that
connects it.
Hope this helps
