How to put password so the neighborhood couldnt access my dlink router

Hi,
All you have to do is connect to the router and change security key/ secure the connection. Just follow the following steps: -
First you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer) by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is 192.168.0.1 (Default router settings are written under the router)
(unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password "leave it blank")

Lookup for the options to do the following: -
Next step is to secure it (adding a network security key):
1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Setup" Click on Setup at the top and then click Launch Wireless Security Setup Wizard. Select your desired encryption method (WEP
)
3.Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
4. Click Save Settings.
Also, do the following changes: -
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password
(The above steps would prevent unauthorized access to your router)

Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet. Please note down the settings such as SSID Key, User Name/Password and Security as in case you loose this information you cannot recover it back)
You may also download and refer to Page 60 onwards of the PRODUCT MANUAL DIR-625 for further information, if required

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I dont have a disk to install my wep key to stop people from stealing my internet

open a web browser window on the connected computer and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. A window will pop up prompting you for a username and password to access the configuration page for your router. Enter admin for both the username and password.

If it not accept then type user name Admin leave the password box blank and then click ok.

If it still does not accept it that means you have changed your user name and password of linksy.
To get your linksys default settings you will have to reset your linksys router by inserting a paperclip into the small Tiny hole into the back of the Linksys router for 10 sec.

Now you try to access router by user name and password which is mentioned above.

now you will have Linksys router page and now click on Security seetings on top

choose WPA PSK security settings

Now it will as you the security key

Enter any security minimum of 8 Characters anything you like.

How do I find my security key for a D-Link DIR-625 router?

Hello,

You will need to log into the router's web page to view the security settings and access your security key. The default IP address of D-Link routers is normally 192.168.1.1; simply input this IP address into the address bar of your web browser.

You will be brought to a D-Link page and be prompted for your user name and password. If you have not made any changes then the default password should be admin. If you changed the user name and password simply enter them here.

You will need to click on the "setup" tab found at the top of the page. Now you will need to click on "setup wireless" or "Wireless settings" to access the manual configuration. Now you will be able to locate the security key.

If you are unable to locate any of these or you have changed the user name and/or password and no longer remember what they are, you will need to reset the router and set up your wireless network from scratch.

Thanks,

Pat

What is the security key of netgear wireless connection?

Hi,

Security key in side the router. To get the key you need to access the routers web interface. Please follow the steps below on a wired pc. A pc which is directly connected with the netgear router using an Ethernet cable.

1. Open internet explorer and in the address box type http://192.168.0.1 and press enter. It should ask you a user name and password. User name is admin and password is the word password. click on login or ok.

If you don’t get user name and password window with http://192.168.0.1 and try http://192.168.1.1 or http://routerlogin.net

2. Click on wireless settings on the left hand side.
3. Under the security section if the security is wep then note down the key one and this is the security key you need.

If the security is something else then you wont be able to see the security key it will ******. In this i'll suggest you to change the security key to wep, encryption should be 64 bit and authentication type should be open. In the security key one box you need to type in the security key, The lenght of the key should be 10, you can only use a-f and 0-9. For example 123abc567f. and save the settings.

Try connecting on the wireless pc.

Note: if you change the security key then you need to connect all the wireless devices with the new key.

Hope this helps you!

Rashish.

Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router’s IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].
Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name field blank then enter your router’s password ("admin" is the default password), then click OK.
If you forgot the router's password you need to reset the router.
Step 4: Click on Wireless--->Wireless Security to view the Security type and the Key.

All lights for my Belkin N router are on except for the 'wireless light'. Also 'Security' light keeps on flashing. How do i fix this so that all lights are on?

Possible the wireless capabilitiy of your router is turned off and the security is turned off meaning that there is no security key in the router settings yet,

you will need to get in your routers default gateway check by going into the Dos Promp, type in IPCONFIG this will show you your IP address and default gateway type your default gateway in the address bar of your browser IE or Firefox ths should ask for a user name and password to get in your router the default user name will be admin and the password can be blank or password, or admin as well, depnds if your internet service provider change the password and user name of the router. once in the router check wireless settings look if the wireless is turned on the router and for the security just create a network security key to hav that light turned on if you want.

Trying to find my security key for netgear router

You can only find it by logging in to router local IP address. Some routers are 192.168.0.1 and some are 192.168.1.1. Open up your browser and type this in the address bar. Which ever one comes with user name and password is the one you use. if you don't remember you user name and password the only way to log in is to reset router to factory settings. To do this there is usually reset button on back of router. Use pen or something small and push in to the reset hole until u fill button being depressed but make sure u don't press to hard because it can puncture. Hold it in for minimum 20 seconds and release. All of the information that was put in will be erased and then you can start from beginning. Default settings are without security key. For user name and password you can try Administrator and leave empty password field or try password. Once in router settings go to your wireless set up and create new WEP security key and write it down together with user name and password. Good luck.

Open the browser, type the router IP 192.168.1.1 or check the IP while typing ipconfig \all in DOS prompt window. And it will prompt for the user name and password type user name Admin and password as in password or Admin. Then go to the Securities option and then securities and choose the WEP option and generate or either check the WEP key that will be your security key.
