Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

2 Answers

"unidentified image" About half the time when I take a picture it will take fine and show up and then when I go to look at it after it will say unidentified image. Sometimes the picture will still show up but in a small portion of the screen and still say unidentified image. I thought it was the memory card bought a new one and synced it and it still does this about half the time.

Not a perfect solution, but CANON will replace the camera, regardless of waranty if they find it is their problem if it is the SD400 ... I've sent them an email to see if the same applies for all their cameras.
Maybe if enough people respond, they will give us some free software .... other companies can do it, why doesn't Canon?'

If it is determined by Canon USA that your PowerShot S400 camera is exhibiting the CF Card communication problem that has been identified, the camera will be repaired free of charge, regardless of whether the camera is still under warranty. In addition, a refund of a previously paid repair will be made if it is determined by Canon USA that the repair of your PowerShot S400 was prompted by the CF Card communication problem that has been identified.

Half of the time I take pictures, it says "unidentified image" on the picture when I try to look at them.

Hello

This is a sign of image corruption. First culprit would be your memory card. Please acquire a new one and use that. In the rare chance that you continue to receive this error message, it will point to the camera as being the culprit and it will need to be sent in for service.

Canon SD850 IS showing "unidentified image" after pic is taken

There’s nothing inherently wrong with your notebook, and nothing you can readily repair; most notebooks’ video cards and their drivers aren’t equipped to display video through a projector and on your notebook at the same time. You could try updating your video drivers, but you will likely have to change your system’s primary video source to the projector. Solution:
Different PCs may require slightly different steps, but opening Display Properties in Windows XP should generally be your starting point. Click Start and Control Panel and double-click Display. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab. At this point, you should consult your notebook’s users manual to configure your notebook to use the projector as your primary video source.

Unidentified image, image too large

Try formatting the memory card (or changing it). You probably have some bad sectors.

If this does not help, take the camera to a Canon dealer, it's probably a software problem

Try using a card reader to download your pics. Also, go to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture maker machine. You should be able to see all of your pics and print them or even make a cd of them.

You think you can try photo recovery software to see if you can rescue the lost photos or movies, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures and videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Unidentified Images.

I would try formating the card using the camera (menu - setup - format) - THIS WILL ERASE ALL THE PICTURES YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ON YOUR CARD, so before you do this you may want to get a memory card reader and transfer the pictures (click and drag) to your computer. As to using the 4GB card...you will have to check with canon if a card that size if compatable. Not all cameras work with SD cards larger than 2GB.

Canon SD850 IS showing "unidentified image" after pic is taken

we have just experienced both of the above problems. We are using 2G SD card from Kingston. After about 400 pictures set to mdeium resolution we get many pictures with the ? mark unidentified image. I see that each image takes up about 2M of space but the image information is not stored so you can not open the file. Also other images have the shaded problem as above.

does anyone have any ideas about this. Is it the camera or the SD memory? We just bought the camera about 3 weeks ago and are now thinking of returning it

I have the same problem with my Canon Powershot SX110IS. images dissapear with the notation "unidentified image". I brought my camera in to a local camera shop, and they were able to save the lost images. They told me I had an inexpensive, low quality memory card that is causing this problem. I upgraded to a high quality one and haven't had the problem since.
