Good Day Joe,

Sounds to me like the internal speaker went, this is actually common on radar detectors. Although 9yrs is a lot longer than most will last. If you are handy with a soldering gun you can replace the internal speaker with a new one and get it working again. However be sure to take the unit apart before getting a new speaker so you can match up the size as it varies.

Good Luck and I hope thi shelps

pressing the CLEAR button for 8 seconds. on older 9-5 and 9-3 SID's, that you must press CLEAR once & release, then press CLEAR a second time, and hold for 8 seconds. While holding down CLEAR for this second time period, at the 4 second mark "CLEARED" will be displayed, and you will hear 1 beep. If you release the CLEAR button at this point, the DTE and MPG will be cleared out. If you continue holding the CLEAR button past the 4 and 8 second marks, you will hear a 2nd beep, and "SERVICE" will be displayed. This now means that you have cleared and reset the Time For Service message.

Nuvi 2555mt lost voice

First, do you hear beeps when you press a selection on the screen? If yes, then your speaker is OK and the audio circuits are OK in the unit. Make sure that you have a voice selected in the voice menu. Some units have an audio mixer screen and provide different volume settings for navigation (voice) and system (beeps). maybe the volume for the voice (navigation) is set to off. If you don't hear any beeps when you touch the screen AND you don't hear a voice, make sure that the sound isn't set to be muted. If the sound isn't muted, you may have a defective speaker. Lost audio

1. First, make sure that the sound is not checked to be muted.
2. Make sure that you have a text-to-speech (TTS) voice selected in the language menu.
3. When you press a function on the screen, do you hear a beep? If so, this indicates that the sound is not muted and that the audio circuits are working. If you don't hear any beeps when pressing a function on the screen AND there are no voice directions, then I would suspect a defective speaker. More information can be found here:
