I want to set my desktop back to factory... but system recovery says it has an incomplete inviroment. I do not have any disc that the system is asking for. what can I do

by using the disk you will not be able to restore it to factory settings.
try making a system recovery disk instead.

There are two ways to do this. 1st. Using the recovery partition already installed on your hard drive. 2nd. Creating recovery disc by launching the recovery disc creator. It is highly recommended that when purchasing a new computer a set of recovery discs be may as a factory back up in case your hard drive fails. You should make your recovery discs first. That will require at least 3 DVD blanks. Tell you what, you make the discs first and I'll explain how to use both methods. Click your start button and find a folder called maintenance. The location and name of the folder varies by each computer manufacture as to where they file the recovery disc creator program. I believe It's in the maintenance folder. If your particular eMachines model didn't come with recovery media or you just misplaced the disc, you don't want to be caught without a means to restore the operating system.

It's all too easy to accidentally download a virus or experience any number of problems that make your computer unstable.

However, there is an option for restoring your computer without the original recovery disc by using the pre-installed recovery software.

Use an external memory device such as a DVD, flash drive or external hard drive to back up the data you need to save from your eMachines computer.

Any data that isn't saved to an external source will be erased when the computer is restored to factory settings.

Remove any discs that are in the optical drive and unplug the computer's peripheral devices, such as an Ethernet cable or scanner.

Do not disconnect the keyboard, mouse or monitor.

Click the Windows "Start" menu and choose "All Programs."

Navigate to "eMachines" and choose "eMachines Recovery Management." Click the "Restore" tab.

Click "Password Settings" if you have not already set a recovery password. Type a new password in the text box and click "OK." Click "Restore System to Factory Default."

Type the recovery password and click "OK." Click "Next" to wipe the eMachines computer's hard drive and begin the recovery process.

Select "Finish" and wait for the eMachines computer to restart.

Use the series of installation prompts that appear on the screen to create a new user account for your operating system, set the system date and time, and set up your internet settings.

Exactly what is the problem? Why would you want to to a recovery back to factory settings and lose all your documents, music, pictures, videos and programs you've loaded since you purchased the computer?
You could try using a system disc and try booting from it to fix your problem. Better yet you could try doing a system restore which preserves all your documents, music, pictures, videos and programs. If you can boot into safe mode try system restore. Again I would need to know what kind of error you're getting or why you want to do a recovery.

usually if you dont get a recovery disc with your laptop you would then use those discs to reload the system from scratch. the other is that you would have to create recovery discs as soon as you started using the laptop. if the sales person did not make you aware of it then he is a very bad sales person. the other solution would be to go to the web-site of the manufacturer of the laptop and under the support section or drivers and downloads you will find drivers and recovery disc image or iso or a self extracting file which you will then have to copy to disc then use the created disc to reload the system

The only way to restore back to factory settings without the CD is by booting into your Recovery Partition, IF YOU HAVE A RECOVERY PARTITION. If you do have a recovery partition, then you should see an option for booting from that when you first start up your computer. It should be listed with Setup and Boot Menu options. Press the key that is displayed for entering recovery. From there you can choose what type of recovery you are wanting to do. If you know that you have a recovery partition, but don't see it listed when your computer first starts up, then start tapping F8 when you first boot your computer. You should see a black screen with white text. From there you can choose Safe Mode or whatever. You should see something labeled Recovery or Utilities in that area if you really have a Recovery partition. If you don't see this, then you will have to go to emachine.com and request a recovery disc from them. They will likely ask you alot of questions in order to get the disc. Usually it costs between $20 - $50 for the recovery disc. The only other option you have is to go to Staples or some other store and buy the Operating System you want.

when it tells you to take out every disc, leave the recovery disc as it contains the files needed for it to recover your system to factory specs

that shouldnt be much of an issue just use first disk and follow instructions you cant mess up

You will need to burn a Recovery CD / DVD set from the icon located on the desktop/ In your Acer Home Start utility (The window loading at startup) or from the Start Menu.

Using this disk you will be able to do a System Restore back to original factory setup.
