Water dispenser works on Hotpoint side by side fridge, but no ice is being made. Replaced filter. Checked icemaker switch. When I turn it off and then back on, a small spurt of water goes into icemaker, but then nothing.

  • nancykoehler Jul 04, 2008

Water is not going into the icemaker, so it is not cycling. Temp in the freezer is 0.

I would first try replacing the solenoid valve which lets the water in. Also, how are the ice cube arms aligned? They should be vertical

also, the water hose isn't clogged even a little bit correct? If you disconnect it, do you have full pressure?

What is the freezer temperature? What happens to the water that is in the ice maker? Is it frozen and just not popping out? Is it filling completely? If it is full and just stopping , the icemaker is probably bad. If the freezer temp is below 10 degrees It should cycle with no or little water in it. If it is cycling try replacing the valve. If the temperature is right and it is still not running at all. replace the ice maker. (Usually just 2 - 3 screws and plug the new one in.) valve will run about $25 ice maker about $75

Refrigerator - Icemaker Not Dispensing, Making Ice

Check that the feeler arm on the icemaker is in the down position and is not blocked.

If the icemaker does not have a feeler arm make sure the icemaker paddle is not blocked under the icemaker.

For more information on the causes of new icemakers not making ice.

For more information on normal ice production.

Side by Side models:

  • The filter may be loaded with sediment that can cause low water pressure.
  • The water pressure must be between 40 and 120 psi.
  • Pressures below 40 psi may cause a malfunction of the icemaker (i.e. producing hollow cubes or no ice production).
Test the water pressure:
  • Dispense water from the dispenser into a large measuring cup for 20 seconds. If the measuring cup contains less than 13.5 ounces (400 metric centimeters), the water flow is inadequate.
If the amount of water is less than 13.5 ounces then the refrigerator fails the test, remove the filter and test the refrigerator again with the by-pass plug in place.

  • If the refrigerator dispenses the proper amount of water with the by-pass plug in place, then the filter should be replaced.
  • If you no longer have the by-pass plug and it has been over three months since the filter has been replaced, you should replace the filter.
  • If the refrigerator fails the test again and you know you have the proper water pressure in your home, you should call service to check the refrigerator.
If the amount of water collected is over 13.5 ounces then the refrigerator passes the test and the dispenser is working correctly.

Refrigerator - Icemaker New and Not Producing Ice

If the icemaker has just been installed, there are a few things that must happen before it can produce ice:

    • The icemaker will not start immediately after being plugged in. The mold temperature must first reach 16 degrees Farenheit before a cycle will begin. It is recommended to wait 24 hours before expecting ice.

    • If the water line was just added to the machine, it will take about 1 1/2 hours to initiate a cycle.

    • The icemaker is dependant upon the temperature of the freezer. If the temperature in the freezer is too high, ice cubes will take longer to form.

    • In new installations, there may be air in the water supply line. The icemaker will cycle it out in a couple of cycles. The first cycle will produce a small amount of water, and the second cycle will fill over this. It may overfill slightly but this is normal.

    • The icemaker must be plugged in and turned on (electronic models). Icemakers are shipped in the off position. It should be plugged into the left rear wall of the freezer.

    • There must be food in the fresh food and freezer sections, or temperatures will not drop sufficiently to cycle the icemaker.

    • The rear air vent located near the icemaker in the top mount no frost models must be pointed down so the air will blow directly over the water in the mold.
Note: If your unit has a water filter, it may be clogged. A clogged filter restricts water to the icemaker and reduces the amount of ice made. The restriction will also be seen at the dispenser with slow water flow.

To see if the water filter is clogged, remove and replace it with the filter bypass plug. If you have a water dispenser, you can check the flow rate by filling a glass with water. You should be able to fill an 8 oz glass within 10 seconds. Normal filter replacement should be every 6 months.

Ice maker does not work on my Hotpoint sise by side. the water dispenser works, i've replaced the filter, the green light is on, but nothing happens with the icemaker, no running water sound, no ice

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

Whirpool fridge won't make ice

a loss of water supply to the refrig could cause this problem. check the fill tube that supplies water to the icemaker (this is the tube that omes into the rear of the icemaker) i think you will find it is frozen up. you can clear this out wiht a hair dryer. I just looked at a diagram for the model number you provided and the fill tube is the black tube that comes into the fill cup on the far right hand side of the icemaker. you will have to raise the icemaker door to see it. but heating this and clearing the ice will fix it thanks peyton

Ice maker does not work

I had the same problem and even called a technician only to be told they would come out for $70.00.

I got a tip and learned that nothing was ever wrong with the icemaker. What you must do is turn the temperature up to the maximum for a period of at least 8 hours. Especially after changing the water filter or unplugging, power failure, etc. Once the icemaker is producing you can then lower your temperature gauge.

Ice machine not making ice

Hi, everak11,
Three possible solutions for you.
1: No water coming in from inlet valve. Check voltage on inlet if you have voltage and no water then replace valve.
2:Icemaker not cycleing. Lift the arm on the icemaker to shut it off and leave it for about an hour. Come back in and turn the icemake back on by lowering the arm. If the icemaker does not begin a new cycle and the arm start rising then the problem is most likely an icemaker. Replace Icemaker
3:Refrigerator not cold enough. If the freezer is not getting cold enough the icemaker will not cycle. Check the temperature in the freezer and make sure it is getting down to 0 degrees. If not then you may have another problem with your refrigerator. I hope this helps you, Let me know if you have any other questions or symptoms. Mike

Hotpoint HSS25GFP icemaker stopped working

are u sure that model # Is right.. DOnt come up in any of my model data bases Seems like u might of got a bad icemaker.. if the water is coming into the icemaker from the water valve.. icemaker has to have power, to do that... all funtions after that would be controled by the iceaker .. The only other thing i can think of is your refrigerator has to be a certain temp to activate icemaker somewhere around 0 give or take some to be safe
