Low hot water pressure but the cold water pressure is good.

I have that, too. It's probably built up sediment in the hot water tank. The tank needs to be drained (cut off the electricity to the tank and cut off the cold water supply to the tank.) Hook a water hose to the bottom value of the tank, open a hot water faucet, and let it drain. Turn the cold water on to the tank, let it fill up, and repeat. Should fix it.

If the build up is really bad you will have to take the whole unit apart. Remove all the elements and break up what you can with a wire coat hanger or something similar. Use a product like Lime Away. Check the elements carefully as they can be damaged by build up. You probably have one or more burned out from this. Check continuity and replace if needed. Make sure the wattage is the same as the old one. If it is a different shape make sure no element touches another. This should solve your problem

Is it possible that you don't have enough water pressure, electric shower heater elements will cut out if the water pressure gets too low, try increasing the water flow.

Bottled water appliance precautions

Hey Culligan Man!

My family has enjoyed the convenience and health benefits of drinking bottled water for several years. We have used a drinking appliance where the bottled is upturned and the water is gravity-fed. The water is then heated and cooled and served from hot and cold spigots. (I've seen other types of dispensers when the bottle goes upright inside the cabinet and is pumped into the water pitcher.)

The heated water quit working recently but the refrigerated part was OK. After noting how some members of my family used the dispenser, I have solved the problem. It is caused by the water level running too low in the mini water heater causing the element to burn out. Low water doesn't harm the mini-frig part. Low water levels are caused by using the bottle past empty and continuing to take water until it almost stops coming out. This "starves" the water heater, consequently burning out the element! Always replace the bottle on top before it gets past empty! If it gurgles considerably, it's filling up a nearly empty water tank probably with a burned-out element.

Maybe manufacturers can address this problem of too low water levels in subsequent models.

Regards,

Bob K.

Valve does not rise

There is usually a safety pressure valve besides the floating valve. Make sure it is not in the release position. Push it down. Is your stovetop getting hot enough? Try using a different or larger element.

WATERMILL SHOWER PUMP - On turning on the shower

This sounds like a problem with the flow switch(es) that control the operation of the pump motor.

When the pressure decreases I assume that the pump has switched itself off - check this before going any further, but I will assume that this is the case. (If the pump is still running when the pressure decreases then you have a really strange problem and I would need to think again).

The pump motor is controlled by flow switches on the outlet side of the pump - when the shower valve is opened the flow of water activates a switch that supplies power to the pump motor. There will be one flow switch on the hot outlet from the pump and another on the cold outlet.

I assume that one or both of the flow switches is not operating correctly. This can be either a fault with the switch(es) or insufficient water pressure on the inlet side. Has anything changed that might have reduced the pressure on the inlet side of the pump? Have you moved the water tank that supplies the pump? (cold water storage tank)

If there is adequate pressure on the inlet then one or both of the flow switches is not working correctly. To further diagnose the problem try turning the shower valve to cold water only and test the operation of the pump, then turn it to hottest and test again.

If the pump operates correctly on cold only or hot only then the associated flow switch is OK, and the other one is faulty.

Replacing a flow switch is not difficult if you are reasonably handy, and I am happy to provide further help if you need it.

Weird taste and smell in water from cooler

The best way to clean it is to run pipe cleaners through the tubes followed by a baking soda solution. If you have an empty cooler bottle put a gallon of hot water into it and three tablespoons of baking soda. Install it and run all of the water through the cooler and also through the hot side. This will make it clean and sweet smelling once again.
