Question about Onkyo Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have an Onkyo TA 2090 that has the play button continuously flashing on and off. Usually the play button flashes for just a second and then becomes operational. Now when it powers up the play button flashes continuously and the controls do nothing even though everything is lit up. Is there a reset button in the deck? Thanks

Cassette decks do not have a reset button, the only way to do any type of a reset would be to let it sit unplugged overnight. I don't think this would help anything. The microprocessor in it is not the type that would require a reset but it won't hurt anything to try.

Since this is an older model (but very good one), it is very possible it may have some bad solder connections. It was intermittant at one point, having this problem but then playing. That is a sign of bad solder, but it is no guarantee. As solder get old and has a lot of wear from the unit being played it can degrade very slowly, causing an intermittant failure that eventually is constant. If you are good with a soldering iron you could try reflowing any solder connections that are not shiny and silver or have rings. The problem could be much deeper than that, but without having it in front of me to trouble shoot, it is really just a guessing game right now. There may be several different things that can cause it to do what you described. All of those things would require some good electronic troubleshooting skills to isolate.

Since this is a quality piece of equipment, it would be worth getting fixed. It would be difficult finding one this good at the price you would pay for a repair.

If I can be of any further help just let me know.

Would you like help programming your Onkyo remote control to control other devices?

To program your Onkyo remote control, follow these steps:

  1. Hold down the REMOTE MODE button for which you would like to enter a code, and keep pressing it down.
  2. Press and hold down the DISPLAY button until the remote indicator lights up (about 3 seconds).
  3. Within 30 seconds, use the number buttons to enter the 5-digit remote control code for your device. (look these Onkyo remote control codes up in the codes list.)
  4. The remote indicator will flash twice to indicate a successful programming.

The Onkyo remote control codes, listed by brand, are available here.

I hope that helps.

Espresso and Longo buttons flash simultaneously and continuously

Try holding both buttons down while you turn the machine on until they stop flashing - usually about 5 seconds. This will reset the machine to its factory settings. Hope this helps.

I have a onkyo cassette tape deck ta 2600,when you push play on the cassette,it would play the tape for half of a second and stop

Sounds like the cassette tape itself is too tight to play, try fast forwarding or rewinding the tape in the deck all the way to the end of tape several times before trying to play. This may solve the problem

Open the deck and look for the copper colored leaf switches (above the plastic comb) that get corroded / dirty over the years.. Clean them with deoxide or similar and your are most likely good to go..
