Had the same problem. I opened it up by removing the screw under serial # and then 2 other screws through holes. The power button had broken on the circuit board not the plastic clip. I pried silver clip off and removed the toggle - removed the plastic button on the shell and use a mini screw driver to turn on and off. Works like a champ as long as I have something to insert there a short the connection to power on.

Rio Carbon stuck on Formatting

Leave it for around 2 hours to format. If it is still formatting, pull the cable out. Some of your data may corrupt, but it will get unstuck. Then plug it in again, go to Start>My Computer, right click your player, and select format.

only thing you can do is let the battery go dead and hope that it will come on properly, you can also try pluggin it into usb, but your probably alreay tried that.

Insert a paper clip end into the small hole to the right of the headphone socket. This will reset it (if it's not already gone flat!)

Can not copy files from Rio Karma to PC

Files can be copied to the computer from the karma although it doesn't work all that well.
You'll need to use Rio Taxi. I think you can get that if you connect the karma to your network using the dock then browse to the karma's ip address and get it. If not you may have to try and find a place to download it.

Rio Carbon stuck "WRITING"

The writing message may appear for a good forty minutes after completing the firmware upgrade - make sure your player is fully charged and just let it sit for an hour on that writing status - it will stop eventually.

Saving Settings

1) Make sure that you use your MP3 Player carefully. Don't drop it. and put it in a safe place. 2) Charge your Player only when its battery nearly empty. 3) leave some storage available, like 10% of your storage. 4) Unplug it from your PC when you aren't using it. 5) Use safe removal when removing it from your PC. 6) When you don't use it, Shut it down. Good Luck

Need help with rio forge mp3!! its messed up

Same problem here. No amount of updates or battery removal will help. Purging, re-downloading, reformatting...all failed. I'm afraid at this point there is nothing left to do but toss it.

My rio used to say upgrator and now its not turning on at all.

I think when you hit the on/off power button (on top near outlet for headphones) AND hit the menu button (on side below volume dial) at same time...it puts the Rio CE2100 into "Upgrader" mode aka "Recovery" mode. From what I've found online, basically, the firmware to the device is deleted. Trying to reinstall firmware, or reflash the device is nearly impossible. The tiny hole near the earphones is for resetting the device--use a needle (about the only thing that will fit-ouch)...but that only lets you turn it on/off if u get stuck. The tiny hole on face near display is where audio recording mic WOULD be if Rio CE2100 had one. If ANYONE knows how to escape "Recovery mode" or "Upgrader" mode please share. This is a common final result for many owners of this otherwise great mp3 player. There is some notation in online help site that says ce2100 requires 500mA from USB and says u can go to Device manager, check ur USB Root Hub, check Power tab to see how much power is being supplied to the device. Mine said 100mA, and doesn't work...but I don't know how to resolve this. =) Maybe tomorrow...or just wait for sales post-christmas. =)

The reset button is the tiny hole on the top of the player to the left of the volume wheel. Use a paper clip to stick in the hole and push in the reset button for a second. Your screen should turn black and then turn off. Hopefully that will work!

The screen says "Upgrader"

Have you upgraded the software if not try that. Check your battery voltage if it reads around the 2. something voltage then you need to get that battery to its orginal capacity. I dont think you'll get your songs back. Does it have a reset button if so reset it.
