In my JVC RX 8SD only works a channel. How do I repair this defect?

Start with the simple things.
  • Check left right balance
  • Swap output speakers left to right
  • Swap the speakers at the receiver to make sure no wire open/short
  • Swap input RCA cables left to right red/white - white/red
Ok No JOY!
JVC has thermal overload circuits/overload on most of there Amps.

Remove power for a minute or two to see if there is a reset.

Rewire speaker connections to speaker set 2.

Connect REC out to Rec In swap cables and see if problem is in pre-amp or power amp.

Check internal fuses.

Why is there no output to right speaker?

Confirm that the audio balance is not set to the left but in the middle!

Swap speaker connections to make sure the problem doesn't follow the speaker indicating the wiring to the speaker or speaker is bad.

Need to confirm that the input to the selected device is OK. Swap input RCA Red and White connections from the source. If an optical confirm that the source balance if the setting is available is set to middle

On many upgrade receivers as this Sherwood there is a test feature that confirms with an audio beep the speaker balance and connections. Look for a "Test" button.

Beside swapping the speaker connections left to right swap the speakers between the A and B speakers. See image for connection detail.

With phono, I only get sound from one speaker, but no problem with tuner. Any ideas?

You can start to troubleshoot the issue.

Change the phono plugs reversing right/left. Does the working speaker change? If yes, problem is in turntable or cartridge. If no, problem is in your receiver.

If the problem is in the turntable or cartridge, pull the cartridge off. Is it directly plugged into the arm, or does it have 4 wires on it? If wires, swap right/left. Change in speaker? No? Problem in turntable wires. Yes? Replace cartridge.

If it's plugged directly into the arm, clean the connections with a pencil eraser (gently). Fixed? No? Try connecting turntable to a different receiver, comment.

What we're trying to do is to isolate where the problem is, so you know what to replace or fix.

AM 35 Amplifier problem Dear Fixya I ma using two technics turntables into Vestax PMC 25 powered by Akai AM 35 amp. The amp Balance switch between left and right is not working. Also the amp...

From your description, I would guess that the output stage of the amp is not working properly. Rather than the outputs being shorted (the most common failure), the output transistors appear to be open. This basically means that you are attempting to drive the speakers with a "pre-amp" section. This could be a power supply problem or defective transistors. An examination of the last stage of the amp is needed here. If the outputs are open, the parts cost will be in the $40-$60 range. Power supply repairs will likely be in the $20-$40 range for parts.

Hope this helps a bit.

No sound on right speaker when playing input on CD or PHONO

Nothing should be connected to PHONO except a turntable.

Reverse the leads left-to-right and see where that takes you for the root. Might be a bad cable.

No sound from front left channel

Try swapping the connectors for front-left and front-right (just swap right at the back of the amp)

After the swap, does the front-left speaker work, and now the front-right is dead? If so, then it's a problem in the amp.
If not, then the problem is in the wiring and/or the front-left speaker itself.

Post back here with your findings, and we'll troubleshoot whichever part of the system is broken.

Front-Right Speaker Not Working

I would have a look inside, it might be a bad soldering joint that got disturbed in the move. When you get inside follow the wires from the Front-Right terminal.

It could be a dirty control or switch, working them back and forth could prove that. Other than that, It's likely bad outputs. A unit that old may have transistors for outputs but might be IC's. Transistors can be tested with an ohm meter to see if they're good or not. Also if it has transistor outputs, they may have a small value resistor on the Emitters, check those as well.

Hope that helps...
