Hello Art G.

The easiest way to get connected to your access point is by using the CD that came with the AP. If you don't have it, you have to get connected to the access point in order to get the WEP KEY.

If do you have the model of the Access point (2wire) i can help you with that.

Does the older Dell have a wireless radio?

If not, you'll have to use an ethernet cable to the 2wire router or buy a wireless USB card for about $35 or less for the old Dell. I'm assuming you are running XP SP2 or higher system.

You can try first removing all the Linksys software from the computer and then after that unplug the LInksys adapter from the computer and restart the computer.when the computer is already up you run again the setup CD and follow the steps again and you can already connect the Linksys adapter before running the setup so the computer will detect it already...

Explore the CD and check if it has drivers for Windows Vista. If none, check their website and look for any available drivers or see if it is already compatible with Windows Vista.

Its possible that the linksys adapter is not setup properly, or it does not have the same wireless settings set on your 2wired wireless modem. Do you know if the network form 2wire has a security. You can checkt he site survery tab of your linksys monitor.

Win98, Linksys USB Adapter, 2wire router... no internet

hi!
sorry if it took a while to get an answer to your question...

anyway, let's begin by ensuring that you have completed installing the drivers & software of your wireless adapter.

launch the linksys wireless program by clicking on the icon for the linksys on the system tray or generally, this can also be launched from the programs menu after clicking on the windows start button.

on the main screen for the linksys, there are 3 tabs: link information, site survey & profiles. select the profiles tab

on the profiles screen, click on the new button to create a new profile. name the profile with a customized ID & click ok.

under choose a net type, select infrastructure mode. enter the SSID (this is your customized ID created on the new profile) & click next.

under network setting select obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP) & click on next.

under security settings choose "disabled" for WEP and leave the rest of the fields blank.

confirm the settings by clicking on yes.

note: you don't need a driver for your 2wire router, ensuring that the 2wire is already working with the ethernet connection.
also make sure you are able to see your devices on the mdc page, go to homeportal/management, local network> device list.

i assume that the mac g4 is able to connect wirelessly to this 2wire modem, am i correct?

please let me know if you have any issues... we'll work this one out, ok?

be sure your laptop's wireless option is set to ON.. if this isn't helpful, goto your internet options, then right click on the connection and do a repair on it.. if you do not see any wireless connection option, your wireless card isn't showing up then..

be sure on your desktop that you have all the wireless options setup correctly..

has your laptop been on a wireless network from your place before? let me know if any of this helps.. unfortunately, the cable company only supports up to a router, sometimes they will help with the router part.. let me know if i can help anymore..
thx, d
