Unable to format Seagate ST9500423AS

Have you tried reformatting your hard disk? this happened to me when i tried to us PartionMagic tool. my hard disk stopped working tho' it's still showing up when i plug it in another PC. this is how i get it working again:
i plugged my hard drive to another PC and i used DiskPart to clean it and i formatted it in Windows Disk Management.

it worked for me and i doubt, there was an error partitioning my hard disk so i needed to make it fresh again.

Will reformatting my hard drive save it the disk from going out?

There isn't any way of fixing a failing hard disk (it is nearly worn out).
You need a new hard disk, but in the mean time backup your data regularly before the hard disk fails completely.

I tried to restore my sister laptop..but i got a message saying restore failed..so when i tried to restart the computer...i just got a black screen with the message NTLDR IS MISSING...Press ctrl+alt+Del...

Hi there, I did a bit of research on this for you and this is what I found:
First off, there are numerous causes which could be giving you this message. Odds are it's because reformatting wasn't completed properly, which means something on your computer hasn't been set up properly.
Computer is booting from a non-bootable source. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS. Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32. New hard disk drive being added. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable. Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS.

I keep getting the message 2010

After a BIOS upgrade or installation of a new hard drive, the following error message may appear at POST: ERROR
2010: Warning: Your internal hard disk drive (HDD) may not function correctly on this system. Ensure that your HDD is supported on this system and that the latest HDD firmware is installed. Press <Esc> to continue

Press <F1> to Setup
The system appears to boot normally after escape is pressed and the operating system will load.
Solution There are three possible workarounds to eliminate the error:
  1. Update the hard drive firmware to the latest level. Download the hard drive firmware update, and then apply to your hard drive.
Note: This update requires a floppy disk drive.
  2. Replace the hard drive with one supported by the system being used.
  3. Use the hard drive, producing the 2010, error in the Ultrabay of the system or a docking station with the second hard drive adapter instead. The interface to the Ultrabay is parallel ATA. For more information visit, ThinkPad Second Hard Drive Adapter for Ultrabay Slim - Overview
Additional information This error is purposely generated to alert the user to potential problems with diagnostic or copy tools. There are known issues with several of these listed below.
  1. Disk Fitness Test (DFT) version 3.xx provided by Hitachi GST which uses vendor specific commands on the hard drive. These may not be correctly interpreted since they must pass through the serial to parallel ATA bridge. However, version 4.00 or later of the Disk Fitness Test (DFT) will work.
  2. HDDTEST version 0.28 by Hitachi GST does not function properly for similar reasons. Instead, use HDDTEST version 0.29 or later.
  3. DOS-based copy tools may function slowly or produce incorrect output, specifically previous versions of Norton/Symantec Ghost. These versions are not compatible with the Serial-ATA interface of the Intel ICH6M chip set. Documentation on this problem may be found at www.symantec.com. It is recommended to use either a newer version of Ghost, Norton Ghost 2003 (version 2003.789 or later) or Symantec Ghost 8.0 or later, or to use the -FNI switch when invoking Ghost from the command prompt (For example, Ghost.exe -FNI with the current version of Ghost).
Other disk copy tools and related applications, such as some backup programs, may also have similar behavior. The hard drives shipped in the affected systems will not display the message because they already have firmware that recognizes this new Serial ATA bridge chip. However, a similar drive from an earlier ThinkPad system or an OEM drive might cause the error message to be displayed. Customers may also notice the POST error message after applying a ThinkPad BIOS update if a drive without the firmware update is installed in the system. Some early systems were shipped with a system BIOS version that did not provide this POST error message. Updated BIOS has been released to provide this informative POST error message to users.

Corrupted mp3

This is the message that the player gives when the hard drive fails. You can try upgrading the firmware.

Go RCA at the following link and download the 'hard drive upgrade utility'
http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=202

When ready turn player off then press and hold the center toggle while connecting the USB cable.
Run the install program.

If the player still fails and you want to save it contact Sansaworld.com, They can replace the hard drive with flash memory. The player will load faster with 4x the battery life.

"RESTARTING"

I encountered the same issue with my Nitrus. After following instructions to upgrade firmware, I had the "restarting" message on screen. I then took the unit apart once again. I could hear the drive making a noise. I tapped on the back of the drive with a screwdriver and the player started working properly.

SAMSUNG DVD R120 error EC:0207

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.
