Problems with a new HP Laptop

My husband and I purchased an HP laptop today and there seems to be a problem with it. Internet explorer will close itself for no reason. After I set it up I was able to download Yahoo Messenger and it worked just fine. After that I tried to download Skype and Internet Explorer stopped working. I tried again and had the same result. I thought there might be a problem with Skype, but whatever I attempt to download, I encounter the same problem. I don't know what to do and I would really appreciate some help. Thank you!

I will be happy to help you if you could provide a couple of pieces of information. I have used HP equipment for some 20 years, and stand ready to work through this with you. Could you please tell me what model you purchased, and if there were any special options? Additionally, what are you using to connect to the Internet (wireless, dial-up router, etc.), and what make/model is involved in each piece of equipment? Thank you - I look forward to hearing back!

Sorry to here about your issue. It sounds to me that you might have some kind of Malware on this PC. Internet explorer comes with the Operating system and is on your computer.
Try this:
in Windows XP
Start>My Computer>C:>Program Files>Internet Explorer
Once you're in the Internet Explorer window you will see the "E" for internet Explorer you can drag and drop it to your desktop or Right click and send to your desktop.
If there is Malware on the PC you will have to remove that to resolve your issues. so try this

Boot your PC into safe mode with Networking:
To start the computer in safe mode with Networking 1.
You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
2.
Click Start and then click Shut Down.
3.
In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
4.
As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8.
On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press F8 when the boot menu appears.
5.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode with networking option, and then press ENTER.
6.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

Once your in safe mode with networking click on links below:

HP laptop - explorer closes automatically when trying to install itunes

First of all use Firefox instead of internet explorer, its far more better than IE. Secondly when you want to install itunes, put your antivirus and spyware on hold (i.e. turn them off).
It it dosent work try reinstalling your OS without formatting your hard disk, this will repair your system if accidently you have deleted some installation file. And keep your system updated.

If all you're looking for is wireless internet within your home, then you can simply buy a wireless router off the shelf from Best Buy. However, a wireless router will only provide a range of a couple hundred feet, perhaps a couple of hundred yards. Essentially, it only provides internet access at a single fixed location. I'm getting the impression you're looking for something more.

If you're looking to have internet access wherever you go, no matter how far from home, you're going to need a subscription to wireless internet from a cellular provider such as AT&T or Sprint. They sell both internet access as well as the cards used to connect to the network, so check out their websites to explore your options.

Internet Explorer Closes

If your system wasn't set up to do MS Auto-update from the factory, I recommend you use it.
It is likely that the IE and possibly other Windows functions need one of the hundreds of tweaks MS constantly makes to try to keep their Edsel working properly.

Open your Control Panel from the misnamed 'Start' menu, click on Automatic Updates and check (or set) your settings.

BTW, lots of luck with your Compaq/HP laptop; I won't own another one nor service any HP system again.

Try downloading Mozilla Firefox, a different browser and less susceptible to viruses than Internet Explorer. You can do this at www.mozilla.com/firefox.
