1. In order to use it, or any other fax machine, you need to have a land line phone.
2. Some printers don't have a built in fax, but rely on the computers internal fax modem and software on the computer to send a fax. But then your computer will still need to be attached to a landline phone.

Cartridge error how do i correct this

Clean both cartridge contacts and the carriage contacts. If no avail, replace the cartridge. If it doesn't help, just stop using land phones and faxes and switch to emails. My former organization just throwed away all fax machines and ink printers.

I am getting rid of my dedicated fax line and am adding it to my land line. I am told when I have a fax coming in I will hear a double ring which mean my fax line is ringing. How do I set my fax to...

There are two ways to configure a fax machine to answer the phone line. The first way is by pushing the "auto answer" key on the keyboard of the fax itself. When this key is used, the fax machine answers all calls that come in after a certain number of rings. The other way is to manually press the fax button when an incoming call is happening. You can set the number of rings for your machine to pick up by using the keys on the fax machine under the menu feature and then scroll using the up and down arrow keys until you see fax set up and then number of rings.

I have heard about the option that your speaking of, where they give you a separate phone number for your customers to fax when you own a business line but I don't know how the fax machine itself would be able to distinguish between the normal ring of a regular call and the double ring of the merged fax line call. I was told that when I set that up for my friends business recently, that the machine would auto recognize the double ring without any programming and to use the auto answer feature for all calls. He has not had any faxes yet (its a new business) so I can't say for sure if it works or not? I can say that none of his regular calls have been picked up by the fax so far though.

I changed one of my land phones to a cell phone and now I get phone line error when I try to fax. Whats up?

You can't send a fax using a cell phone. The fax machine requires a regular old-fashioned analog landline.

Cannot send faxes when using cable company's digital voice modem

Fax machines must have a standard analog phone line. They won't work on a digital line and can actually be damaged if hooked up to one.

K80 OfficeJet has trouble distinguishing fax and phone ring tones

I would suggest getting a new one, but BE SURE you check to see if it will work with VoIP. I have the HP 6210 and it has problems with VoIP as well. Go to a place where you can test it at home and be sure you can return it if it has issues. Best Buy, or Staples are pretty good with returns, but SAVE the receipt! LOL... Sorry I couldn't offer better news! //Don

Cannot figure how to set up Canon MP830 All in One Fax machine with remote answering machine

Cannot figure how to hook up Canon MP830 all in one fax with remote answering machine. I can plug in phone line to send faxes fine but when hooked up in same hole and the phone rings it goes immediately to fax and can't receive phone calls. Maybe i have phone line hooked up in wrong place on my machine. The answering machine is in our master bedroom on the other side of the house. With my last a canon also i had it hooked up to go to fax after a certain amount of rings and it worked fine. That machine got fried by lightening and i replaced it with this machine. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i really need this fax hooked up all the time for my business.
